Obama did in fact try to do something and that McConnell blocked him from doing that somethingmaking a public statement that would be a "show of solidarity and bipartisan unity" in publicly condemning Russia for interference.
As The Washington Post reported it, McConnell refused to do it and said "he would consider any effort by the White House to challenge the Russians publicly an act of partisan politics."

(31,261 posts)President Obama should have laid out the case of Russian interference to the public, regardless of what McConnell and Ryan said, the two republicans are traitors and their current behavior only confirms that.

(7 posts)Such a fine American Patriot that one. He'd sell his mother for 43 cents. Hell, I think I saw a listing on eBay once for his soul, I was going to buy it as a morbid curiosity, but I was outbid by big_pharma01.

(4,618 posts)I believe, after McConnells threat, that Obama judged a partisan fight would injure Clintons chances. She was still leading in the polls right up to Election Day, although after Comeys BS it was on a dangerously negative trajectory. In retrospect, it was a colossal mistake.
Its also my opinion that McConnell knew what was coming, given his refusal to consider Obamas SCOTUS pick, Merrick Garland. Let the people decide, he said, a year before the election. The people decided. They voted for Obama. Twice. I dont think McConnell would have done that if he didnt believe the fix was in and the Republican nominee would be placed in the White House.
We, as a constitutional republic, are in big trouble.
