The Right Wing Got Their Chicago Talking Points
I guess everyone has heard that Dana Loesch, speaking at CPAC, claimed that the media loves mass shootings because "crying white mothers is ratings gold". She then went on to claim the media did not care about black mothers because CNN had never had a town hall for violence in Chicago.
I decided to do a google search to see if CNN had done a town hall on Chicago violence. I learned that CNN had done a town hall on Chicago violence. However, along the way I say a number of what seemed to be posts making the same claim as Loesch. So, I guess the new talking point on the Florida shooting is, "CNN never had a town hall to discuss the violence in Chicago."
On another note, all the media did during the Obama presidency was talk about Chicago. I watched the CBS Evening News just about every night during the Obama years. If they did not report on Chicago and the number of people dying there due to gun violence every day, they reported on the subject every week. Almost every Monday there was an update detailing how many people had been shot and killed in Chicago. There were always black mothers, black pastors, and black funeral home directors being interviewed on the subject of people dying in Chicago.
I understand that Dana Loesch is not paid to tell the truth, nor does she want to tell the truth, but it is still sad that someone would be willing to tell such a lie and be able to get away with telling that lie. First, I wish Loesch was not so eager to lie. Second, I wish her audience members were not so eager to have her lie to them. It is just sad that this is what has become of political discourse in America.
