First National Bank dumps NRA, will no longer issue NRA Visa card

The official NRA credit card will no longer be offered by First National Bank of Omaha.

For more than a decade, the First National Bank of Omaha has offered special branded Visa cards to National Rifle Association members to support the group. On Thursday, following two days of public pressure, the bank announced it “will not renew its contract” with the NRA.

The bank confirmed, in a tweet, that “customer feedback caused” the decision:

On Tuesday, ThinkProgress reported that First National Bank was one of at least 22 corporations that the NRA says offer incentives to NRA members. The bank and its parent company did not respond to repeated inquires about whether last week’s horrific mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida, would cause it to reconsider its relationship with the group leading the charge to oppose gun violence prevention efforts.

But less than 24 hours later, ThinkProgress spotted that the website advertising the “official credit card of the NRA” had mysteriously vanished, with an error message appearing in its place.

Neither the bank nor Visa responded to repeated ThinkProgress inquiries about the disappearance, but the bank did respond on Twitter, to many outraged customers, many of whom threatened to cancel their accounts because of the relationship.

First National Bank is the first of the corporations to officially end its relationship with the NRA in the aftermath of Parkland.

There are still at least 21 corporations with ongoing relationships with the NRA.

I'm of the opinion that Banks are not socially conscious organizations. I doubt they had much of a call for the NRA cards, and I imagine they pay the NRA for a licensing fee to use their image. They'll save some money and get some free PR for awhile.

Or maybe I've become too cynical in my old age.

has actually hurt the NRA. In the past, the GOP would pretend to give a damn about children dead in a school shooting while quietly holding out their hands for money. Now, they are so greedy--or so beholden--they they automatically say "Whatever the NRA says goes for us"--which means that when they do nothing, the public now blames the NRA directly.

Meaning that the NRA is a victim of its own success in bribing the losing side. Since the GOP will soon be out of office and in prison for treason. Along with the members of the NRA that colluded with Russia.

along with a bunch of other very bad signs. Political extremist groups have a tendency to self destruct, so much so that most do it so early hardly anyone ever knew they existed.

The NRA, which had previously supported gun control, went extremist back in the late 1970s, but it was already an established power and it did so in the context of an America, and especially a Republican Party, that was also moving or being moved farther right.

Btw, there really already was a vast right-wing conspiracy in place and working hard to move America as a whole farther right. No coincidence that at the same time the wealthier classes had started growing unbelievably wealthy and their own strong conservatives were becoming increasingly resentful at having to pay taxes that benefited all us shiftless, lazy idiots who expected them to take care of us. Or that's the general idea.

35. Shut down the Russian money that's sneaking in the NRA's backdoor
Fri Feb 23, 2018, 12:53 PM
Feb 2018

That's the only thing that will change anything.

Russia is quietly funneling $ millions into a hidden fund in the NRA with no paper trails. That money goes to all the Repukes who need it for campaign costs. Several are taking over a $ million from the NRA, but even if it's a small amount, it doesn't matter. They all know it's from Russia - that's the point. That's why the GOP will do nothing to help the Trussia investigation. They think it can't be traced to them, but it can and it will be.

Mueller is tracking down the money, and eventually this will all come out. It didn't just start in 2016, we'll be shocked when the truth finally comes out.
