On The Subject Of "Schools To Prisons"

I think it's way past time we change that talking point. Especially after today, Wayne La Pierre made the NRA and the GOP's agenda perfectly clear. It's not "schools to prisons". What they really want is a steady stream of "schools to coffins". Because after all, what does it matter to care for people if they're already dead?

They seem to think it's perfectly normal for you to own a stockpile of weapons and ammunition for "when the time comes". That's why they're so intent on arming teachers. You're more likely to get killed or injured in a crossfire - especially for someone who's not fully trained to use weapons - than you are with bullets coming from just one direction. And it doesn't exactly take a weapons expert to figure that one out.

And why provide healthcare for someone after they've been shot? Wayne today made it clear that he'd rather see you just fucking die than be injured for the rest of your life. So naturally when a mass shooting happens, soulless people like Wayne and Dana will come after just about everything but their precious death toys.

It's one thing to be a conservative. It's another thing to be a hateful asshole. And right now the hateful assholes have taken control of the conservative movement and the republican party. Watch Wayne in the 90s - he actually made some good points and rational, well thought out arguments on gun control. Which is why the NRA kicked him out and replaced him with Charlton Heston . Now watch him today. With the lunatic fringe wing of the GOP taking over, it's impossible to tell the difference between Wayne La Pierre and Alex Jones. Watching the CPAC speech today, you could have easily replaced Wayne with Alex, and it would have sounded exactly the same.

And look at the language they use - like take the word "triggered" for instance. Right there, that implies firing something. At someone. They talk a tough talk, they love to use tough, macho sounding language because it verifies their credibility with other tough sounding macho types. And they love violent fantasies. But do they not realize that John Rambo was a fictional character? Fictional - as in not real. Do they not realize that you can't run into gun fire and expect to survive? What do they think is going to happen? Do they envision Rambo scenarios or something more like the war scene from Wonder Woman where you're magically protected if you wear special wristbands? If you're hit by a bullet, that's it. Game over.

Which comes back to my original point - "schools to coffins". The GOP, NRA, and 2A aficionados can blame anything they want for a mass shooting. They can blame taking god out of the public square. They can blame any other insane theory they want, and it's their right to do so. But the common factor is the gun. The common factor is our insanely lax gun laws in every state in America - pick a state at random, even my own state of California - and you're guaranteed to find some incredibly insane laws governing who can and can't own a weapon. Why take the time to prosecute someone or protect someone when it's cheaper for the government if they're in a coffin and six feet under ground?

As the late, great George Carlin once said - "when you're pre-born you're fine, when you're preschool, you're fucked!". If only he could see this argument about arming teachers today - truer words would have ever been spoken.
