(27,813 posts)It's a terrible phrase. They probably should have workshopped it a little better, because I don't think "hardened schools" conjures up anything pleasant or safe sounding.

(3,208 posts)The younger one, second grade, very large for his age, showed me how they get down on the floor. It was so sad. But what would be even sadder, especially psychologically, would be for them to know the teachers have guns while they are teaching in the school. I think that would harden this generation in more ways than I can imagine teaching them to be reactive would.
