A Modest Proposal.

Is there anything we can do about guns?

Clearly we cannot confiscate them, because even the most Nazified crazies would recognize that a a loss of freedom.

We cannot approach it from a standpoint of saving kids' lives. The NRA and therefore the GOP, would not stand for that.

But we could have a modest tax to pay for the economic damage.

There are 300 million guns. The damage has been quoted on DU as 229 Billion per year. Therefore a tax on-average around $750 per gun per year should cover it. It would obviously have to be on a sliding scale, that would only be fair.

If we did the tax at the point of sales it would have to be around $900,000 per gun based on 2016 sales data.

Let the free market solve this problem. Nobody forces anybody to be a gun owner. Everybody keeps their rights as they are now. The cherished right-wing freedom to be shot in public by a complete stranger, is not infringed upon.
