This is a very good angle to read about. Would have been even more meaningful if they had shown the pictures or xrays.

Seems like with every shooting there are folks who come out and explain the differences between weapons, but I wonder if they know the differences of how these weapons affect the human body.

I can't bring myself to read it right now. I'm all to familiar with what a gun does to a human being. But I will force myself to read it today. Thank you.

as told by a radiologist.

Anyone crazy enough to advocate for the civilian ownership of the weapons of war should probably be declared insane and locked up. Starting with Wayne.

The way they make young DUI offenders go to emergency rooms and morgues and talk to staffers there, to see and/or hear what REALLY happens to DUI accident victims.

We shouldn't even let the military use such destructive weapons. Those bullets really chew up a body in a painful, horrible death that no one deserves.

This article made me cry. The chances of survival are practically non existent with tha AR-15.

The writer described the wounds very clearly. There is no need to see photos.

"The CDC is the appropriate agency to review the potential impact of banning AR-15 style rifles and high-capacity magazines on the incidence of mass shootings. The agency was effectively barred from studying gun violence as a public-health issue in 1996 by a statutory provision known as the Dickey amendment. This provision needs to be repealed so that the CDC can study this issue and make sensible gun-policy recommendations to Congress."

Gov. Cuomo just on RAchel talking about how they are going to study it themselves and share it with everyone. Unbelievable that the feds banned studying gun violence! I wouldnt be surprised if CA, OR and WA joined with them. THe left coast.

The AR-15 platform is capable of firing dozens of different caliber rounds. Some of which behave in the manner the author states and others that don't

For instance one can have an AR15 that fires the 7.62X39. A round fired by the AK-47. One can also have an AR-15 that fires the .22 LR. It can even fire shotgun shells (the .410).

Here's a partial list of different rounds that the AR-15 platform can fire:

.410 Shotgun
.50 BMG
.22LR
9mm
.40 S&W
.45 ACP
.50 Beowulf
.458 SOCOM
7.62x39mm
5.7x28mm
6.8 Remington SPC
6.5 Grendel
.300 AAC Blackout / .300 Whisper
.223 Remington / 5.56x45mm

Here is what the author says about pistol rounds:

"A year ago, when a gunman opened fire at the Fort Lauderdale airport with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, hitting 11 people in 90 seconds, I was also on call. It was not until I had diagnosed the third of the six victims who were transported to the trauma center that I realized something out-of-the-ordinary must have happened. The gunshot wounds were the same low velocity handgun injuries as those I diagnose every day; only their rapid succession set them apart. And all six of the victims who arrived at the hospital that day survived.

Routine handgun injuries leave entry and exit wounds and linear tracks through the victim's body that are roughly the size of the bullet. If the bullet does not directly hit something crucial like the heart or the aorta, and they do not bleed to death before being transported to our care at a trauma center, chances are, we can save the victim. "

If you look at the partial list of different calibers the AR-15 can fire, you'll see the 9mm listed. So one then must surmise that in her opinion, a 9mm AR-15 is less dangerous to victims then a .223 AR-15.
