instead of "guns", try substituting "machines designed to kill people".
the word "guns", uh, triggers (sorry) deeply etched pathways in the brain. it makes people think of that all too familiar arguments about the 2nd amendment, gun control, gun rights, etc.
it makes it hard to actually think and have a fresh, constructive debate because it's so easy to fall into the same old debate.
so, when talking or reading about such topic, try substituting a phrase like "machines designed to kill people".
for example, when donnie talks about giving teachers guns, er, excuse me, giving 20% of the teachers guns, mentally read this as
"let's give 20% of the teachers machines designed to kill people".
for me, this makes it seem vastly more horrible than it is when the word "gun" is used instead because we've grown so... well, not exactly "comfortable", but at least "familiar" with the idea of guns. even though that's exactly what they are. our president is talking about sending our kids to schools where 1 out of every 5 adults has a machine designed to kill people.
call them what they are.
machines designed to kill people.
