It was a striking turnabout for Rubio, who never met a gun-rights bill he didnt vote for in the Florida legislature and in Congress.

The mass shootings in Newtown, Orlando, Las Vegas and even Fort Lauderdale didnt get Sen. Marco Rubio to seriously reconsider his position on guns.
But Rubio shifted on firearms Wednesday night as he weathered the righteous anger of a parent and of the students who survived the Valentines Day massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and who then faced him onstage at a CNN town hall in purple Floridas liberal bastion of Broward County.
Jeered and booed by the crowd, buffeted by tough questions, Rubio stood alone as the only Republican onstage, in purple Floridas liberal bastion of Broward County. He broke with President Trump on whether to arm teachers. Rubio said it was a bad idea. He said he would favor raising the minimum age to purchase an assault rifle from 18 to 21. And he said he would consider restricting the size of magazines for firearms.
It was a striking turnabout for Rubio, who never met a gun-rights bill he didnt vote for in the Florida Legislature and, later, in Congress. But Rubio said he wanted to prevent another massacre and said it was time for everyone to start rethinking their positions.
The crowd, though, didnt seem to agree.

(14,732 posts)archtypical 'empty suit' who will say anything and do anything in order to keep getting elected and re-elected to office. It's unfortunate that Florida still manages to keep worthless politicians like Rubio on the public payroll. Perhaps the next time he's up Florida will get a lot more purple and we can finally get rid of this little posturer.

(82,849 posts)In the face of a hostile, informed, righteous crowd, Rubio's just smart enough to make noises that keep the crowd mollified. But as soon as he feels safe again, he'll shift back on firearms. He's nothing if not craven.

(17,863 posts)This feels different somehow. Definitely needs to go into the DNC archive for future use. Chances are any primary opponents are going to beat him to death on it. Maybe Allen West - where are you when we need you?
