(6,457 posts)What is next armed guards on every corner, police with AK15's everywhere, a total police state, body searches for everyone. I knew in the end this was going to be a farce and so it is.

(6,075 posts)If you make a scientific-wild-assed-guess that about 5%* of those teachers already carry into the classroom, that means you'd be arming the remaining 95% (about 3 million in this example) with sufficient firepower to repel an armed invader and hope that those 95% are never emotionally unbalanced, never make bad decisions, never have anger management issues, never have accidents, and are never, never, ever so careless as to let their weapons fall into the hands of their students -- even though they're tasked with being ready to respond at all times.

But, yeah, this idea is simply asking for trouble. Likewise the idea that there is a ready and capable workforce to be "armed guards" of some kind put into the schools, which is certain to introduce its own set of issues with qualifications and behavior.

(32,688 posts)against a military style rife....fat chance, might even be suicide. Then when the swat team gets there and they see a teacher running around with a gun in his or her hand, more suicide. Then how many times will an unarmed student get shot to the screams of "I feared for my life".
Give it a try, but don't say I didn't tell you.
