Hope this is true...
@JYSexton
Just got in touch with one of my old sources inside the Trump Campaign who raised alarms about Russian interference. According to him, "Everyone knows the jig is up."

More from this thread below:
He told me the feeling when Mueller got appointed was that maybe this investigation might end up with a hazy narrative of what happened, but the minute people read the Manafort indictment "the air came out of the balloon."
The feeling inside Trumpland isn't that Trump is desperate, but that he's convinced himself there was no collusion. They've rumored about delusion for awhile, but that seems to be the prevailing opinion now.
Nobody I talked to was engaged in these meetings or negotiations with Russian nationals. They'd always heard these rumors and innuendo and were always suspicious of Manafort, Flynn, et al. The rumors and innuendo, however, have all been reflected in what's made it out.
For a lot of the workers and staffers inside the campaign it's become a paranoid life filled with lawyers. A lot of them who got in to have a job in national politics or a future media gig in "Trump TV" regret having helped Trump and fallen into this.

There is a reason why trump fawns over the Russians. Blames everybody BUT the Russians. Damn near blows kisses to Putin. NEVER says anything negative about Putin. There's a REASON for this.
Either he's their go-to money-laundering partner, or the banks over there are deep into him (having lent him money), or the oligarchs are deep into him (having lent him money), or maybe he's already heard from a well-connected operative who's reminded him of what can happen when Putin thinks one of his pets isn't obeying or performing up to expectations. Maybe he's already being blackmailed.

(40,212 posts)They all heard the hate pouring out of Trump's mouth from the day he announced his candidacy.
They signed on.
And nothing, absolutely nothing, is keeping them from doing the right thing and calling Mueller on the phone and arranging a little talk. They know where to reach him and Mueller would be glad to hear what they have to say.
It is their shame. They have to own it.

(14,155 posts)..... have to be imposed by Mueller, so down the road people think twice, 3X, better yet 10X before pulling a stunt like this type of treason this nest of tr-dump vipers engaged in.
Like maybe build a wooden gallows and place it on the front lawn of the White House. Then broadcast coast to coast as the hangman teaches a few of these traitors a lesson. Espionage, treason, making a mockery of your oath of office, selling out Democracy to create - an Oligarchy, - a Fascist Autocracy, - and/or a Fundamentalists Reconstructionist Christian Theocracy is not under any circumstances fine and dandy.
In fact these ideas are particularly frowned upon and will accordingly be punish severely to express the universal national anger and displeasure that such liberties to sell out the country by design were even thought about or ever secretly and covertly taken.
This is a shameful blotch of time that has been brought upon and tarnish our history. We may not be able to entirely erase it, but surely we can eradicate it from our government as rapidly and thoroughly as we possibly can.
Then begin the healing process - repair the damages and injuries - and then move on with the knowledge we must never reiterate the same mistakes that got us here - ever - ever again.
With Mueller's expertise and the talented team of Patriots he assembled - we dogged this bullet - but only by the skin of our teeth. But never the less we - some far more so - were incoherently led 3/4 of the way down this dark rabbit hole of Hyper-Fascist Oligarchic inspired Hyper-Capitalist Christian Dominionist Theocratic no man or woman's land of returning to feudalism.
Who could have known freedom and Democracy could be so perishable if it is not care for, properly pruned and supported, and looked over with a keen eye and steady hand.
It is all our jobs to keep this ship of state afloat. Donald J. Trump and his mindless/brainless/thoughtless band of minions ain't going to do that for us. It was a fool's errand to think he would or he could.
Hekate
(90,714 posts)Mueller's job is not to act as judge, jury, and executioner. All the various functions of the Justice Department and indeed the entire legal system are kept separate for a very good reason.
magicarpet
(14,155 posts).... or acting as a judge, jury, executioner, or hangman.
Mueller knows very well that he is only a component in our system of checks and balances. That his why he takes the time to build a case - because he know the case is going against the review of a jury and a judge who renders the final verdict. That again is a component in our system of checks and balances.
What tr-dump fails to realize is that there is a system of checks and balances. Even if there were it has nothing to do with tr-dump because he thinks he is untouchable cause he is rich, or untouchable because he is so so smart, or untouchable because he has the power greater than a king. He simply waves his hand - and all actions taken against him disappear with his adversaries tossed into the dungeon.
Well Mr. Trump there is a system of checks and balances and they are here to specifically protect us against tyrants like you.
I was once afraid this system of checks and balances was not strong enough or ridged enough to stand against the relentless on slot of deception by someone like a monster such as tr-dump.
But as Mueller chips away and builds his case I would like to think this system of checks and balances if allowed to run it's course will serve us very well.
Criminality is not to be taken lightly. It takes investigators, prosecutors, juries, and judges and then review by higher courts and their judges if need be. But as this case will show Presidents in general and team tr-dump is not immune to being brought into a court of justice. No matter how powerful and omnipotent he thinks he may be.
I have had my eye on this clown tr-dump and anxiously watching and hoping he could be somewhat contained - because he has the inclination to be spastic, fire the gun then aim, respond out of raw emotion rather than fore thought and reasoned thinking.
I apologize because I might be a little anxious to see him taken down. But under no circumstances do I advocate any shortcuts be taken. - but only done by the book.
Under no circumstances does he deserve to walk away a martyr wrapped in the shroud of sympathy because he got a raw deal.
There was a raw deal in play here - the raw deal of endless prevaricating lies - the raw deal of deceptive conduct and actions - the raw deal of taking an oath and then tossing that oath out the window - and the raw deal of taking the Constitution and using if as toilet paper.
We dish not dish up those raw deals to him. He dished those raw deals up to us hourly, daily, constantly, and habitually.
Tr-dump should be made to answer for that and it should be done by the book - no shortcuts.

(347 posts)I'm not certain but I doubt if "collusion" is a legal term. "Conspiracy," on the other hand, is clearly defined and depending on the conspiracy, the penalties are tough.
Before anyone can be charged with a conspiracy, the guvmint must first prove that a conspiracy exists. That is what Trump's indictment of 13 Russians and "person known and not known" does -- it establishes the existence of a conspiracy. Now all that's needed is to tie people to the conspiracy . . . which is the reason for the "persons know and not known" part.

Trump knew exactly what was going on and was/is an active participant. It isn't just collusion, it was - and IS - a CONSPIRACY with the Russians! IMO, these people are all traitors. Now they are trying to give him cover. They knew what they were getting into and they cared more about permanent control and enriching themselves and their "friends" than anything. They don't give one iota about our country and/or us.

(1,639 posts)Quitting smoking comes to mind as an analogy. So does leaving an abusive relationship, or getting out of any relationship at all.
Some people can rip off the bandage fast. Other people let it soak off in the shower.
Impeaching a sitting POTUS is a momentous deal. Mind you, electing a president should be undertaken with a bit more thought and gravity than many voters put into the effort.
The concept of marriage and divorce make for another analogy. People love weddings, and they have all sorts of unrealistic ideas about marriage.
When it comes time for the divorce, the laws are more complicated, people's emotions are more confused and the process is more lengthy and expensive.
Russia played matchmaker for Trump, and all sorts of funding paid for the dates and gifts and other aspects of the courtship.
The taxpayers covered the costs of the wedding that not many peopled attended. Now, we're paying for the divorce lawyers on our side. From what I understand, Trump has been using campaign funds to pay for his lawyers.
Someone else will have to explain to me how that fact fits into the divorce analogy, beacuse it's beyond my ken.
