Schools in the Orono school district were locked down at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday on the advice of police.

District leaders emphasized there is no intruder, kids are safe and parents should not come to the schools.

Orono police Wednesday afternoon said two threats were received through social media, including a "direct threat of gun violence at the Orono Schools."

The department said it takes the threat "very seriously" and is calling in Hennepin County authorities and the FBI. Also, Old Crystal Bay Road has been shut down and no one will be allowed to access the area, the department said in a statement.
