On another, bu related, topic- a local astronomy club has had an influx of flat-earthers telling everyone what we are seeing through our telescopes is wrong.

Why do people believe in fairy tales and bullshit when the truth is right in front of them?

First they find a boogeyman to blame it on (i.e. George Soros, Antifa, MS-13, crisis actors), and then they parrot it back ad nauseum. They can't accept the fact that people don't think like they do, so the only conclusion they can come to is that someone has been PAID to say the things they don't like. That's why every time there's a protest, there are RWers claiming that the protestors are being paid by George Soros (who's apparently the richest man in the universe, with an inexhaustible well of money that he uses to fund every liberal cause ever). Every Mexican they see is in MS-13 (the only gang name they know, so they repeat it over and over). Everyone who protests them is Antifa. If you hear someone using any of those buzzwords, they've just outed themselves as a RW nut job.

By the way, do you want to know why RWers automatically just assume that George Soros is funding these liberal causes? Because RWers in government only care about causes when the Koch brothers pay them to care, so they automatically just assume that if people CARE about a liberal cause, there must be a corresponding liberal financier paying THEM to care. And George Soros is the only left-wing financier they know of. That's why his name gets attached to literally everything.

First, there's no consequences for these assholes to behave like the assholes they are. These are the folks who revel in being called "deplorable."

Second, they're trying to put on us the exact same tactics Trump uses. Remember Trump's announcement of his candidacy? He hired dozens of people to come to the rally and cheer for him. For some reason, that story has completely slipped the collective memory of the popular media, and now they get to act all scandalized and stuff about "crisis actors." Short response to that: You're getting confused: It's Trump who hires people to make favorable comments and cheer for his dumbass rhetoric.
