February 21, 2018 at 11:00 am ESTBy Taegan Goddard
Dozens of active Green Bay area voters went to cast their ballot in Tuesdays primary election only to find they had been removed from voter rolls, the Green Bay Press Gazette reports.
Wisconsin Elections Commission spokesman Reid Magney attributed many problems voters experienced on Tuesday to a multistate electronic tracking system the state started using in 2016 to update its statewide voter rolls. He said the system sent postcards in November to close to 400,000 voters the Electronic Registration Information Center, or ERIC, identified as people who moved and would need to either confirm their details or register with updated information.

(70,120 posts)i have tried to explain this to many people, some who really should be able to get it, that provisional ballots should be investigated to see who was blocked from voting and why.
that they were able to cast a placebo ballot does not mitigate the attempt to disenfranchise them.

(3,577 posts)The voters discussed here had been taken off the poll books of registered voters. If they could provide an acceptable proof of residence they could re-register when they appeared to vote. If they did not have that proof they could not be given a provisional ballot because that's the law in Wisconsin. Provisional ballots are given only for registered voters who don't have photo ID with them at the polls or who registered by mail but didn't send the required proof of residence then and don't have it at the polls. Those voters can cast a provisional ballot and have until Friday to bring in what they need to get the vote counted. The election laws have been made (intentionally) intricate but that's what we are stuck with for now.

(90,347 posts)... it matters what they have to do to prove valid residency.
This election was hacked, it was the voter roles that were the easiest to get to and the most effective way to change the votes in the end with the least amount of risks.
It's been done before in Florida

(3,975 posts)Did these folks ignore the postcards sent to their homes? If it's what I think it is, these were people who hadn't voted in the last 4 years. This may be different, but I know there's a 4 year purge to keep the voter rolls under control and more accurate. Need more info...

No rational reason to think this shouldn't' get the Bhengazi treatment from congress

(58,785 posts)it okay to disenfranchise people based on one postcard that wasn't received?
We're not talking about receiving a realtor's solicitation to sell people's houses here. This is about the sacred vote. They should follow up any non-answers--with emails and then registered letters warning of the danger of being removed from the voting rolls--way before election time.
It's about government of, by and for the people. It's not a frivolous privilege to be granted or taken away at a registrar's whim, it's our sacred right and duty.
That's why they had to allow these people to vote anyway, of course, after jumping through some hoops. The principles our federal and state laws are based on require it. They just hope some won't have time.
