They invited their representative to view the body of their child who had no jaw left
It was very effective.
In Bowling for Columbine, a shooting victim with shrapnel in his spine, in a wheelchair goes to "return the ammunition" to Walmart.
It was very effective.
These kids speaking so eloquently about what happened at their school, and not simply saying "I thank Jesus for saving my life," but turning the spotlight on what could be done to prevent other children from dying is also very effective.
That's why they're being smeared in a desperate attempt to discredit them. Just as the "Sandy Hook was a hoax" campaign tried to do when the parents organized.
The right wing has felt that it is appropriate to use questionably sourced graphic medical photos, magnified 1000s of times, in order to cut straight through create an emotional reaction to the idea that women have a choice.
Maybe it's time they got a tasted of some of their own marketing efforts.
Forensic photos of the bodies at mass shootings, particularly school shootings, should be presented as exhibits in the case against "the choice" to purchase assault weapons. With the permission of the families of the victims, of course. I think that the parent of the Sandy Hook victim might be willing.
It would be very effective.
Thoughts?

There have to be at least a few videos of the parkland shooter actually shooting someone and the gruesome videos of the victims that the kids had to walk over to leave the building.
Let's not hide this. It is time for all of the USA to get a little PTSD. Their fellow students at the high school should not be the only PTSD victims of this massacre.
It was the newsreels coming back from Vietnam that actually tipped the opinion of the general public that we shouldn't be there.

I don't want to see these... but it was images like this that shocked the American public... not taking away anything from the student protesters (after all I was one of them).

(5,997 posts)If the parents OK the release, unblurred crime scene images need to be published.
The problem is that the carnage is currently an abstraction and only seeing these images will get some to come around.
This will also defang the conspiracy theorists, who mumble about crisis actors and whatnot.

(1,817 posts)But I think the time has come and if it is OK with family members, I would not protest.
I feel shame however as an American, that we have to make these family bear even more grief and horror because we cannot get our act together and have laws like evey other civilized country.

(8,287 posts)but now, I'm so furious about our children getting shot up in schools, that I'm willing to see them. If it can melt a couple of those stone hearted GOPers, than, so be it.

(6 posts)Emmett Till's mother did this and look at the effect that it had. I have always thought that there should be billboards with autopsy photos of gun shot victims. The visuals alone would horrify people and spur more people into action.

(9,287 posts)Eisenhower made sure the Nazis death camps were filmed. The Right Wings Second Amendment exists in a responsibility free theoretical cloud. A picture makes the difference when theory meets the body of a bleeding child or innocent adult.
If these are released we should be extra special protective of the parents who would do this. The right will mock the photos. But as we learned about punching women, those who mock will be pariahs.

(10,126 posts)It was for ammunition 30 odd 6 or a caliber close to that.
It was a split page comparison of the back of a head of a dead African who had been shot in the head by competitor ammunition that made a 1" diameter hole in the back of his skull vs the ammunition they were promoting that blew a 6" diameter hole in the back of that dead African's skull.
I looked at the guy whose magazine it was and said "you are so fucked up!" and left.
I've never forgotten it.
This was another memorable Vietnam image
I protested that war and this was one of the images that got folks worked up

(61,695 posts)Reasonable gun control measures should be required to look at photos from Sandy Hook, Columbine, Parkland, etc. They need to see the carnage, the bodies turned into "hamburger" as one DU veteran said.

The piece begins: Here Are The Autopsies For The Victims Of The Las Vegas Mass Shooting
The details are disturbing. But they sharpen a reality we must confront.
I read them slowly and tried to image what the damage inflicted looked like. It's painful.

(22,670 posts)Due to the cognitive actions of those few who were able to turn on their cell phones and record the horror, the chilling screams of children being slaughtered on camera, and all those hunched under school desks fearing for their lives during the rampage, we can feel the adrenaline a fear running through our own bodies. Chilling.
If the families want to show the carnage, I'm all for it. We need change. We need to shock the conservative grip on their false reality to its foundation. Children are dying. It's up to the adults to do something.
