Looks like they are going to try again tomorrow to get the conservative held Florida congress to debate assault weapons.

(11,100 posts)If the young people have had enough and stay involved, something may be done.
My generation has screwed this up. If the high school students will lead, I'll follow.

(6,249 posts)Florida is being hamstrung by its red congress critters and its redder governor. Most of the people live in very blue cities, yet we are ruled over by backwoods phonies.
The state should be split at I-4 into a North and a South Florida.
Go, kids, go!

We have to do better than his.

(19,862 posts)50/60s with lunch counter sit ins, bus boycotts, and marches for civili rights and the 60s anti Vietnam protests. It is going to take continued efforts, but these youngsters can beat down the gun cronies.

(19,201 posts)Getting the youth of our country involved in the process, even if they're not of voting age yet, is a positive step for the future of our country. If that can foment change, any change, in the status quo of our country's gun "religion", then they've done more than anyone else has in the past 20 years.
They're going to see first hand how the gun lobby - and it's rabid, unhinged followers - will attack their intent, their character, and their patriotism, in order to keep any new, sane, and much needed change to the gun laws in the U.S. They'll be attacked unmercifully by the right-wing nuts that always pop out of their shitholes when one of these domestic terrorism events occur. And they will fight back because the courage of youth cannot be intimidated.
They'll see where the problems lie, and they'll remember which party is trying to change the way things are. They'll also notice which party is joined at the hip with these demented gun nuts. It can only be good for Democracy. Many kudos to them and their resolve!
