between possible explanations for an occurrence, the simplest explanation---that is, the one requiring the fewest assumptions---is usually correct. A common example: If you are in Wyoming and hear the thunder of hoofbeats, it COULD be zebras but it is much more likely horses.
"The fewest assumptions": we would be well advised to remember that phrase and use old Occam's razor on some of the lame "explanations" for Trump's words and deeds. For example, it is technically possible that he is this unbelievably shrewd new breed of politician who is being unfairly criticized by jealous opponents who just don't understand his original and superior policies of governance. How many unsupported assumptions does that require? More than I'm willing to count.! OR,--------
----isn't the obvious (simpler) explanation for the erratic and often disgusting incompetence of Donald Trump that he is intellectually, morally and temperamentally unfit to be POTUS?
Similarly, all sorts of complicated reasons have been offered for Trump's continuous efforts to abort, stop, block and undermine the investigation of Russian interference in our election, but isn't "He's in it up to his neck and guilty as sin" the simpler and most obvious explanation?
Occam's razor---a useful tool.
