Any system, policy or mechanism

that is based on protecting ourselves from that which is known to cause great harm, is insane. It's not like the thing that is causing the problem is some great force of nature that cannot be dealt with.

Metal detectors, armed guards, teachers with guns, etc. Insanity. Doesn't get rid of the problem.

If you're some kind of idiot and cannot stop bashing yourself in the head with a hammer no matter what, then you have to make sure that you don't have a hammer.

To get rid of the problem, you must get rid of the problem, not make some half-assed attempt to defend against the problem.

This must be a hugely difficult concept, very few people in congress seem to understand it.
