I posted a link that I found here on Facebook.
The comment was: Is It "Too Soon" To Remind Everyone That PUTIN Used The NRA To Bankroll Trump's Campaign?
And the link was to a story from Rolling Stone with the headline: The Trump-Russia-NRA Connection: Heres What You Need to Know
A Facebook friend (more like an acquaintance from High School - I'm 59 years old) commented: Fake News
I took a while to answer, wasn't sure what to say. Today I finally answered:
Canned response! Can't make any real response or refute the article, so you just say Fake News. Why don't you take your Fake President and shove him where the sun don't shine!

(29,565 posts)I also would have asked, "did you read it? Or are you part of the mindless flock of sheep that refuse to believe their own name if they don't hear it on FOX? "

The NRA Is Part of the TrumpRussia Scandal Now
But I imagine this too will be fake news.
So don't bother.

(58,670 posts)I would have to know you better IRL to give an informed answer.
Not all folks can dish out salty language. I learned working a tire machine at a service station in the 60's, and further my "education" with 7 years in the Crotch.
How to express yourself is a personal thing. I thought you did well.

(8,138 posts)but it has taken an extreme amount of self control to do it.
My position is basically- it doesn't matter what you think or say. It is out of your control now. Y'all had your chance to do something and you failed. Move over. Or don't, it doesn't matter.

Oh it's you! Sorry, it just seemed so ...
I do not further engage.
Today I posted a phrase I've seen in multiple places. It was "No one becomes a mass shooter without a mass-shooting gun." White letters on a black background. No cute meme, just a somber statement.
Responses were along the lines of. "So we should ban all guns ...?". My response: "ban" is not in my post.
I did not engage. I've noticed on FB and DU, that an all or nothing gun rights advocate will try to shift and narrow the discussion to a talking point for which they have a strong (in their mind) rebuttal. It's is hard, but I don't go there.
I'm am thinking of posting something similar every day. Just reminders of what gun violence does. Not sure, but I'm thinking of posting one victim's information daily. A man with a gun killed ________. Nothing there to argue about. Keep it fresh in everyone's mind. When I look at lists of mass shooting victims I see I'll have posts for a long time. <sigh>

(10,602 posts)It was a favorite saying of one of my drill sergeants at Ft Polk, La. when I was at Tiger Land before going to Vietnam. It was pretty graphic at the time. He used that saying in so many creative ways during my time there.

(1,369 posts)and could never respond to their idiotic, unimaginative, ridiculous canned responses, and if I could, my hands would shake when I typed, so bad that 9 out of 10 times I just didn't reply at all. I did that for years. Then, I discovered cheesy and corny websites that have a 'Politics' section, so I have been getting quite a bit of practice!!! And you can get every rude thought you've ever had and give it to them!!! Really! They are so crude and gross, and it is so fun to be rude back at them!! I would have never in a million years been as rude as I have been in the last year and half!
I'm really a kind person in real life!

(5,103 posts)I was talking with someone new at the pub when he mentions he listens and believes Rush and Fox. He tried to use that to make a point. I lit up my phone, hit GOOGLE and demanded he prove his bullshit!
After three different attempts to feed me his crap, each time with my same response, he gave up.
I looked at him and simply stated, "If you can't prove it, it isn't true!"
Was I rude?
