(21,132 posts)It's sad that electoral fairness and equitable representation is the goal of only one major party. It's even sadder that it's a dream that had to "come true."
Ah, the world we live in...

(2,419 posts)"Democrat's dream come true". This is a fair and rational map that restores balance to a skewed electoral system. As such it will enure to the democrats' benefit by undoing the prior gerrymandered injustice. This map could have been skewed to the democrats benefit but was instead drawn fairly.

(2,419 posts)and our curse. We strive for fairness and justice-as we should. Our opponents do not. You are correct. We dream of a world that is fair, just and peaceful.

(82,849 posts)Why shouldn't a fair districting map be the dream of everyone in the political world? After a decade in which Republican won a disproportionate number of races because of unfair district lines, "fairness" would indeed be a decade of Democratic hegemony. Instead, the Supreme Court's map simply restores what should never have been so out of balance in the first place.
But for now? Let's contest every race in Pennsylvania, and see if we can't flip a district or two that Republicans "should" win.

(14,174 posts)Can they appeal and stall this until after using the old gerrymandered map and win, at which time they will use their new majority to stall this even further?

(611 posts)The US Supreme Court declined to get involved in an issue adjudicated solely on the Pa. State constitution, and the State Supreme Court is the entity that redrew the districts. So they are probably USC sans paddle. I dont understand the part about using their new majority to stall further. The state legislature draws the US Congressional Districts. The Repukes will probably keep the State Houses, which means that they will probably be redrawing the districts again after the 2020 census. But at least there now is a legal precedent to keep the rotten bastards within the bounds of reasonable dishonesty.
I live in the new 14 th District. Oxycontistan before, Oxycontistan still......

Can we please next see "Basic Levels of Fairness" in the American Justice System and in how our Police interact with our Citizens? Also, some "Basic Levels of Fairness" concerning the recent "wealth transfer" would be cool, as would some "Basic Levels of Fairness" in Healthcare.
Thx in advance.
