It may never happen but our largest division could end about whether we will be a theocracy aided by billionaires for their own purpose or a secular government that covers for all. The dream of the religious right and the Koch cronies is to create a Constitution that make us a theocracy and a totalitarian fascist country all at the same time.
Right now the Kochs are trying to dominate enough states to call for a Constitutional convention in order to achieve those goals. And the GOP is more than happy to help them because they would be the ONLY party under such a plan.
Am I being hyperbole. Probably so. Then again I wonder. Of course it would not really be a shooting war but a political war of division fought at the ballot box and in the public domain.

It will be a political fight with deep cultural and social divisions. We have a lot of that right now. It still split families like the Civil War itself did.

(4,520 posts)guns are being hoarded to just be admired from behind a plate of glass? You are correct when you say "The Kind Of Shooting War Ala 1860." No it will not be formalized battles, with opposing armies in different uniforms who are easily identified. It will be a war of insurgency and terrorism funded by foreign interests.
