(649 posts)And with Democrats eager to woo the white working-class voters who flocked to Trump, the coalition is prodding party leaders to support Blue Dog-backed candidates, saying thats the key to taking back the House in 2018. Its a push that is quickly running into conflict with the partys energized left flank.

(58,724 posts)Seems like folks praise him a lot here because he bashes Trump - but he is a RW Bush-ite Republican through and through.

(58,724 posts)But important to remember, if folks like Richard Painter had their way, Jeb Bush would be POTUS right now.

(37,161 posts)They all accepted gaining votes by encouraging bigotry, fear, foam, and bile because it put THEM in power. Their only complaint is that theyve been pushed to the sidelines.
They cant disown him just by calling him names at this late date.

(637 posts)How often do we criticize the right for ignoring facts. Painter's political and party affiliation do not make what he said any less true. The issue is gun control which he supports and that's what counts here.
There are a number of republicans whose political ideology I abhor but who have, and continue to speak loud and clear re their opposition to everything trump. Unlike almost all of the reps. in congress they have not ignored the massive failings of trump in order to further their political agenda. For that they deserve respect.

Not a broad sweeping shot at Ds, and it is a bit dated view, given the Blue Dogs were mostly flushed out.

(5,210 posts)Not the NRA thing, tho that's bad enough. The BLUE DOG thing. I'm allergic to Blue Dog Dems.
Truman knew, and has never IMO been disproven:
I've seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the fair Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign. - Harry S. Truman, 1952 speaking to a National Convention banquet of the Americans for Democratic Action.

The most obscure blogger has a blue check. Why doesn't Richard Painter?

This graph seems like a significant point in the debates going on right now. 'Toons' and news articles *still* generically refer to "Washington" and "Congress" as the problem when we all know it is the GOP that is taking the money.
