So it was known to the Russians that Trump was seriously thinking about running. This gave them plenty of time to set up operations before the 2016 presidential campaign of Donald Trump was formally launched on June 16, 2015.

(20,017 posts)Trump had already done quite a bit of business with Russians buying apartments in his towers and other properties. It wouldn't be too surprising to learn that those Russians spent years bugging his towers and profiling him, in partnership with the Kremlin, so as to cultivate him as an asset.
