Assange Denies That WikiLeaks Backed the GOP in 2016. . . The Intercept writes that the messages provide an unfiltered window into WikiLeaks political goals before it dove into the white-hot center of the presidential election and that they reveal a running theme of sexism and misogyny, contain hints of anti-Semitism, and underline Assanges well-documented obsession with his public image.
The article also contends that Assanges thinking appeared to be rooted not in ideological agreement with the right wing in the US, but in the tactical idea that a Republican president would face more resistance to an aggressive military posture than an interventionist President Hillary Clinton would.
I believe that Assange does not see himself as having supported the GOP. Assange and the GOP became, as Malcolm Nance would call them, "Fellow Travelers." Each for their own reasons had the same goal - to bring down Hillary Clinton. Instead, what Assange did was defect and use WikiLeaks to not only back, but to aid and abet Russia's attack on the United States.

JULY 13, 2017 ISSUE
... this spring, it emerged that Nigel Farage, the Trump adviser .. now a person of interest in the .. investigation of the Trump campaigns ties to Russia, was meeting with Assange ...
... Assange's own WikiLeaks Party of Australia was aligned with the white nationalist Australia First Party, itself headed by an avowed neo-Nazi, until political pressure forced it to claim that association to be an administrative error.
Most egregious .. was Assange's collaboration with Israel Shamir, an unapologetic anti-Semite and Putin ally to whom Assange handed over all State Department diplomatic cables from the Manning leak relating to Belarus ... Shamir then shared these documents with .. the regime of Belarusian President .. Lukashenko, who appeared to use them to imprison and torture members of the opposition ...
... WikiLeaks released troves of material in which the names of Afghan civilians had not been redacted, an action that led Amnesty International, the Open Society Institute, the Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict, and the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission to issue a joint rebuke ...

(570 posts)That was the point I was trying to make because I keep hearing about how he was helping the GOP. He wasn't. As I mentioned in my post, Assange DEFECTED to Russia and used WikiLeaks to support Putin. That was his sole purpose.
Now, just to be clear, this does not let the members of the GOP off the hook or make them any LESS culpable for their crimes, including obstruction of justice, conspiracy against the United States, money laundering, and sedition.
