With a bunch of wingnut gun maniacs
(I own a WW II Japanese rifle, but have never shot it; they were very admiring)
It was lots of fun, but I wont be doing that again
That said, isnt it like only 25% of Americans own any guns? Over 300 MILLION, right? How many high capacity killing instruments are enough for these loons?

(41,999 posts)Somewhere last night, Bill Maher maybe, someone mentioned that everyone in this country has a gun, and I thought it was absurd. There are certainly areas where many people do own multiple guns but AR-15s? Please. Those people want to indulge the fantasy of being big and bad and able to kill off their neighbors and the soldiers when we get down to civil war. Which, as the writer mentioned, is the dumbest idea there is. What they are really doing is romanticizing the idea and planting that romanticization into the heads of unstable, angry, hopeless white males who think they can rise to some kind of greatness in the eyes of others of their kind by killing the people who they think have done them wrong.

(2,196 posts)I may need one to do away with a threat to my animals, we have mountain lions and bears all over here, I also have several grandchildren and great grandchildren who live here who could possibly be attacked..
Having said all that I have to admit that it is somewhat remote chance that any of those things will happen, but if it did happen there is nothing I have other than a gun that would do what would need to be done nothing at all... This is why I do have guns and also the grandchildren are a partial reason why those guns and their ammunition are safely ensconced on a very strong gun safe that would be impossible to get into without knowing the numbers (or maybe some dynamite or c-4) barring that they are not going to be handled by anyone but me..None of them are AR-15s or any variant thereof...They all are capable of doing what I may need...

(2,196 posts)Whatsoever that we cannot have laws passed that cover most of what is needed and do it without all the rhetoric, hand wringing and emotional finger pointing that in the end accomplishes nothing more than to stiffen the opposition on either side.. Could easily be as simple as some decent training and reasonable licensing practices such as we do now for driving... except make the licensing a federal thing recognized by all states as our driver licenses are..

(41,999 posts)We all need to get over absolutism and work toward one another. I HATE guns. They terrify me. But I know good people (and a lot of family) who have them and as long as I feel safe I respect others right to like them.
We can achieve world peace!
Now get the people who have the power to do so on the same page

(2,196 posts)I have been in several discussions over time on gun control and have never seen any real debates go anywhere. I won;t even enter into one that has someone calling gun enthusiasts "gun humpers" or some such derogatory name.. there is no way of ever getting anything done with that attitude prevailing.

(33,488 posts)From the article:
Hey, Im a good driver, a responsible Formula One owner. You shouldnt be scared to be on the freeway next to me as I zip around you at 140 MPH, leaving your Mazda in a cloud of dust! Why are you scared? Cars dont kill people. People kill people. Doesnt this sound like bullshit? It is bullshit, and everybody knows. Not one person I know would argue non-ironically that Formula One cars on the freeway are a good idea. Yet, these same people will say its totally ok to own the firearm equivalent because, in the words of comedian Jim Jeffries, fuck you, I like guns.
