Cowardly-WH refused to release photo of Trump signing bill overturning Obama gun rule

“You like to say this is a mental health issue but one of your very first acts as president, Mr. Trump, was to actually roll back the regulations that were designed to keep firearms out of the hands of the mentally ill. You did that. Your party voted to repeal the mandates on coverage for mental health. So, I agree, this is a mental illness issue because if you don’t agree we need to do something about it, you’re obviously mentally ill.”

Following a school shooting, the White House reportedly refused requests to release a photo of President Trump signing a bill overturning an Obama-era regulation restricting certain people from buying guns.

CBS News reported Thursday that it asked the White House to release a photo of Trump signing H. J. Res. 40, legislation that the Republican Congress passed just over a month after he took office.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders reportedly responded to CBS News in April after a dozen requests for the photo, saying, “We don't plan to release the picture at this time."

A White House photographer confirmed to CBS that pictures of the bill-signing exist.

Critics said removing the legislation made it easier for people with mental illness to purchase guns, potentially increasing danger to themselves or others. Supporters of Trump's action said the legislation had stripped Second Amendment rights indiscriminately from people who are not necessarily dangerous, such as those with eating or sleeping disorders.

The original regulation would have barred an estimated 75,000 Americans who receive disability benefits from buying a gun and required the Social Security Administration to report people who receive disability benefits and have a mental health condition to the FBI's background check system.
