That quote about George Bush makes me feel like Will McAvoy talking about the way things used to be in America. I may be wrong, but I think there was a time in the United States when a person described as Christopher Hitchens described George Bush could not be elected President of the United States of America. What happened in this country that caused us to go from electing educated people to electing fools.

I realize it can be argued that voter suppression played a major role in Donald Trump being elected in 2016, but that does not account for the fact that Republican primary voters supposedly (maybe Russia was able to hack the vote during the Republican primaries) selected him as their nominee. With the selection of Donald Trump as the Republican Party's presidential nominee, one political party has selected two individuals that represent what Will McAvoy said in the first episode of Newsroom. One of the political parties of the United States of America has selected two individuals who were proudly unintelligent, inarticulate, uncultured, and uneducated. At the same time, members of that political party seems to hate individuals who are proudly intelligent, articulate, cultured, and educated. What happened to the United States of America? Was what some of us believed about the United States of America just a myth?
