...and the Debacle That Walks, in particular. Remember when he said this about George Bush?
"He is a man who is unusually incurious, abnormally unintelligent, amazingly inarticulate, fantastically uncultured, extraordinarily uneducated, and apparently quite proud of all these things.
I wish he'd lived to see this - he'd have had some choice comments, I'm sure. Despite his flaws, CH was very quotable.

(26,501 posts)I respected his intellect. But he could also be a total dick when he was in "contrarian" mode and embarrassed himself mightily during the Cheney years.

(9,350 posts)That quote about George Bush makes me feel like Will McAvoy talking about the way things used to be in America. I may be wrong, but I think there was a time in the United States when a person described as Christopher Hitchens described George Bush could not be elected President of the United States of America. What happened in this country that caused us to go from electing educated people to electing fools.
I realize it can be argued that voter suppression played a major role in Donald Trump being elected in 2016, but that does not account for the fact that Republican primary voters supposedly (maybe Russia was able to hack the vote during the Republican primaries) selected him as their nominee. With the selection of Donald Trump as the Republican Party's presidential nominee, one political party has selected two individuals that represent what Will McAvoy said in the first episode of Newsroom. One of the political parties of the United States of America has selected two individuals who were proudly unintelligent, inarticulate, uncultured, and uneducated. At the same time, members of that political party seems to hate individuals who are proudly intelligent, articulate, cultured, and educated. What happened to the United States of America? Was what some of us believed about the United States of America just a myth?

(4,238 posts)He HATED the Clintons, and would have been bashing Hillary relentlessly during the election. He may not have supported trump, but would have been one of those who focused more on her perceived flaws rather than his.

(49,388 posts)He participated on political discussion panels with other writers, including Arianna Huffington, Katrina Vanden Heuvel, David Ignatious (sp) and Robert Scheer. Hitch never missed an opportunity to be as obnoxious and rude as possible.
