One of the few bright sides of the past year for me...

..at least now with Trump and the Republicans in charge we've finally settled a lot of the "civics lesson" debates about how our government actually can work given what they've done and gotten away with.

The president apparently CAN do a lot and act unilaterally. Presumably if Trump can pass all of the executive orders and do so much damage with just the swipe of a pen, then a Dem president can reverse those orders and use that same power for good and progress.

We will only need 51 votes to confirm a Supreme Court justice. So hopefully that means when and if it's our time to do so we'll be able to get a hardcore liberal firebrand in there and not have to worry about whether they were on some list of "approved" Republican justices or whether they are going to call "balls and strikes" or whatever other bullshit standard we've had to meet in the past.

We can pass things through reconciliation without it having to be deficit neutral since the GOP tax plan was not. So we should only need 51 votes to reverse this Draconian tax plan and to pass something that actually does something for people and makes the wealthy pay what we can presumably all agree is their fair share.

So...hopefully with all of this settled, when we take over again we won't have to continue to have the debate about what is and is not acceptable and what we can and can't do in power, especially if we don't have a full 60 votes in the Senate.

So let's get at it people, and then once we get control again we won't have to waste any time on debates about what we can and can't do and how government works and "civics lessons and all of that and can just get back to the task at hand of fixing the country and doing all those things that we thought we couldn't do the last time we had the power.

..to explain to me how this is not the case for when Democrats are in charge. And sadly many of them will be on "our side".

Something something "we can't sink to their level".....yadda yadda something about "Dems in Red States" and so on and so forth.

Nope. Not buying it. At least if will force people to be honest and say "We don't WANT to do this" versus "We CAN'T do this."
