"I can't speak for all active duty military or veterans. But I think a parade, no matter who came up with the idea, is a huge waste of money. The money could be spent instead on training, upkeep, health care, or any one of a number of other priorities. This is the United States, not N. Korea or the Soviet Union having a May Day parade. We should 'speak softly, and carry a big stick.' A big parade is not exactly speaking softly."
Then when someone questioned him -- "Is a parade carrying a big stick?" he said:
"No. We already have a big stick. No need to flaunt it."
Might not seem to be a big deal but it really is. This guy is retired military, die hard Republican, maybe a little racist, hated Obama, and usually posts pro-Trump Fox News nonsense. He's got my sister doing the same thing which breaks my heart.
Just for a little bit he came to his senses and posted an anti-Trump opinion.
It gives me hope.

(14,757 posts)Two of my kids (boyz of course) were die hard bernie bots. Neither voted voted for clinton, but luckily, we live in mass and it didn't hurt us.
One of them is kind of a red neck, who was saying trump would be no worse than clinton. He had swallowed the click bait on facebook hook, line, and sinker.
Both kids are now as anti-trump as we are. Some of the things that did it are the tip sharing crap, healthcare crap, woman's rights, minority rights, and general shitholery.
There is hope.

(3,680 posts)We get so worn out from the constant barrage of news about him and his inane twitter comments.
We have to find hope wherever we can.

(6,446 posts)and i know a few folk who voted for Trump thinking he would break the government and make it work efficiently... you know, more like a business. All 6 of the Trump voters i know are now anti-Trump. Maybe that's just MA, or maybe that's the difference between what he portrayed and what he is, i'm not sure. All i CAN say is i don't know a single Trump supporter anymore.

(123 posts)People need to wake up realize that businesses are by in large run poorly, are full of nepotism, corruption and that the majority of them only survive due to exploiting their lowest paid workers (when they aren't making them redundant).

(22,670 posts)And that's a major problem. He's in the life boat with 62 other idiot conservatives rowing in the direction of the falls while 66 million others are rowing away from the falls. Conservatives are taking us down with them.

(3,680 posts)But so sorry, my BIL does love me and my family, liberal and conservative both.
I don't know how he reconciles the two in his head. Probably the same way I reconcile my love for him with his despicable beliefs.
I know I speak for millions when I say that family who voted Trump and still support him are breaking our hearts into pieces.
I'm grateful for some small sign that he knows that Trump is a nut.

(6,228 posts)the folks that usually vote repub, but are unhappy with trump would vote Dem in November. If we don't change the House we will be in for more hurt. If the Dems could win control of the House, they will be able to slow down and/or stop the trump agenda.

(32,641 posts)The dissatisfied Republicans are not helping if they vote for RWNJs this November. They can choose an independent candidate (if there is one) or do a write-in vote for whomever they want.
If we can just get them to do that, we have a really good chance to flip a lot of seats this Fall. By the way that's what happened in Alabama when Doug Jones won and Roy Moore lost. Enough Republicans did write-in votes (over 30,000) rather than vote for that hideous Roy Moore. Then the Democratic voters, including large numbers of black women, did their share by turning out to vote for Jones.
That's what needs to happen in ever Congressional District where we have a chance to flip a seat. Also the Senate seats will be very important, but we have maybe fewer opportunities there.
GETTING OUT THE VOTE is so important!

(6,228 posts)I do think there will be those repubs who won't vote at all. I've also seen where some repubs know how bad trump is and want to stop him. They are the ones that I'm hoping will vote for the Dems.

(24,228 posts)and then Fox news tells them some bullshit closer to election day, plays a SCOTUS card, makes up a Benghazi, email scandal or some other bullshit and these sheep vot GOP all the way again.
ENOUGH of these stories.
Converting these idiots is not how we will win this year or 2020.
Registering new voters, convincing people not to vote for 3rd party candidates, and GOTV on Election Day will.

(3,680 posts)but in the case of my BIL he votes republican period. He was a career military man until cancer forced him to retire. He watches Faux News, votes republican and hates Muslims.
The bit about the parade is the one crack I've seen in his Faux News spouting facade. Finally he saw something and said that's not cool at all.
My sister admits publicly it would be better if Trump would just shut up. Of course a few days later she is banging on about how taking a knee is bad and Trump has done so much for Blacks . . .
But hey I'll take any progress. I am dying to see any sign that my sister is still a good person. She's my sister.
It isn't fun at all to have family members who are so off the rail that they think Trump is good for black people. But I've stopped arguing about politics with her because there was a time when we didn't speak for years because of a Facebook fight over Obama. I let her have it in an epic rant over email. I called her on her racist views, and told her I didn't want to ever talk to her again if she was going to tell lies about Obama.
I will admit though, I've been quietly trolling her. If she posts something negative about Nancy Pelosi I post something positive about her. Like that. My style is usually much more confrontational but that just doesn't work.

(2,270 posts)that enough of them do, figure out the truth about our chump in chief I mean. Like others have posted here in this thread , my hope for that is shrinking. My Mother, her husband and my Sister are all convinced that the sun rises from Comrade Bone Spurs ass. I'm the only veteran in the family and the only one against this "parade". I'm rapidly losing hope tbh.
