(15,286 posts)despite Lewendowski showing up to rally the troops. Reportedly there was a surge of GOP voters on election day, but goes to show the Trump "base" showing up isn't enough against a motived opposition.

(6,377 posts)We saw the same thing in the Virginia Governor's race, white suburban women came out in droves to vote for Northam in defiance of Trump. The trend is continuing across the country.

(6,556 posts)... Mrs. Good's opponent was James Buchanan, the son of the local U.S. House rep, Vern Buchanan.
The elder Buchanan is grossly corrupt, even by Republican standards.
Who knows what vile grifts he could have pulled off if he'd had his brat in the State House?
Everyone unfortunate enough to be stuck in this right-wing shithole owes Mrs. Good our sincere thanks.

(30,481 posts)The person who held this seat was an up and comer in the Republican Party. A lot of people had eyes on Miller. She resigned without warning claiming she needed more time to be a mother. She was less than halfway through her first term. She wanted to spend time at home with her children, run a growing business, and be a legislator. Time constraints were known ahead of time.
Miller was actually run out of town by Republicans. This is their own doing. She was criticized by Rick Scot publicly, they screwed her over on committee assignments(kicked her off), and made it clear they just wanted her for a vote.
Buchanan actually was going for another state house seat when he decided to run for this one. Pretty interesting that he even had the option.
