Could This Madman Accidentally Bring Peace to the Korean Peninsula?

As the Winter Olympics prepare to open in Pyeongchang, Vice President Mike Pence faces the daunting task of staving off the threat of impending peace. The governments of North and South Korea are using the games as a summit of sorts, to discuss diplomatic solutions to longstanding disputes over their contested border and the North’s nuclear program. In response to an invitation from the South in January, North Korea is sending a delegation to the Olympics that includes Kim Yo Jong, the only sister of dictator Kim Jong Un; she is scheduled to meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Saturday

“We certainly hope to utilize this opportunity to the maximum so that the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games can become a venue that leads to dialogue for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula as well as to establishing peace on the Korean peninsula,” Moon stated before his meeting Thursday with Pence. But the vice president, who spoke after Moon, reiterated America’s “maximum pressure” for North Korean to end its nuclear program and made clear that the Trump administration opposes diplomatic talks with the North. As The Washington Post’s Josh Rogin reports, “The White House message is consistent: Now is not the time for engagement with Pyongyang, and the North Korean charm offensive cannot be allowed to succeed.”

has driven these madmen in NK, Iran and Iraq to want their own nukes?

It might be heresy to even mouth the words but when you think about it, every neighboring country around both Iran and Iraq has nukes, including our client state Israel which continually threatened Iraq and continues to threaten Iran while also actively and openly trying to get us to bomb Iran for them.

We also regularly hold huge, military maneuvers with South Korea that showcase our tanks, planes, bombs, submarines and aircraft carriers right off the coast of Korea.

In other words, are we scaring the living shit out of Iran, North Korea and formerly Iraq with our military huffing and puffing, thereby making them desperately want their own nuke programs to protect themselves from us and Israel?

First is let's not count too many chickens yet. they are a long way from some sort of reunification.

Second, I think this has a lot more to do with the Winter Olympics and not any policy of Trump, either by bluster or tweet or other.

in the on-going battle with NK is that our fucking moron is as crazy if not crazier than their fucking leader. NK doesn't know what he will do since the fake prez changes his mind every 2 seconds. It is not a foreign strategy/policy by any means. It is the moron's instability and insanity that is keeping NK at bay for the time being.

The other is a garden variety authoritarian strongman doing everything he can to preserve his authority in the face of threats from a nuclear power.

Guess which is which.

...a chance of negotiations excluding the US....which means a demilitarized Korean peninsula is on the table...which means our only direct land access to China...and Russia's pacific border is gone.

Not saying this is a good or bad thing...just stating what could happen.
