I know it sounds silly, but what if the DNC or a private group started a movement to raise money from individuals to match the ridiculous 400 million that the Koch's are going to put into 2018 midterms? We could show that the regular people want to take back our country. I know a lot of people couldn't do it, but many could do a hundred dollars or 500 dollars to save the country.
Just a thought, but framing it like we were matching the power of the Koch's might help raise the money.

(25,894 posts)Keep in mind that if we raise 400 million they'll probably put in 800 million themselves, but even with that concern, go for it.
Not that I have a clue how this should be done.

(12,265 posts)It is similar to what President Obama did, raising money 25 at a time. Maybe the DNC could adopt it, not that they would, they are such chickens.

(12,265 posts)Their ads are designed to reach people who are afraid and looking for a reason not to vote for the democrat. We must have a lot of money to offset what the Koch pacs and other groups are spending. I hate it as much as the next person but it is a reality.

(13,305 posts)..if it were the DNC or the DCCC leading the charge with that kind of money, I'd be afraid it would go to the same group of consultants and professional campaigners with failed track records than to where it should go like get out the vote efforts and voter drives and fighting the shitty voter suppression laws.

(11,122 posts)they would just toss in another 400 million. To them it would be the hardship of maybe not having the gold fixtures in the guest bathroom at the lake house they use every other year for a week. A billion is a lot of money.
We definitely need to money to beat them, but we have to start using it with more savvy. I think too much is spent on the old methods of campaigning. I'm over 70, but I know that what worked 20 years ago doesn't do it anymore.
