(70,607 posts)They all know that they and now the Russians have been rigging elections for years
and when that gets out not even Fox News will be able to give them cover. The Russian's
hacking of our election data needed help by people inside the U.S. in order to weaponize
that data.
Those mother fuckers need to be in prison for treason.

(11,527 posts)So in a way this is old news. Or said another way it's confirming old news. There are those of us who know it's true, so really nothing unexpected. And then there are those who refuse to believe it and very few of those people will be convinced by anything less than 45* proclaiming "Russia hacked the election on my behalf". As per the Mark Twain quote - It's easier to fool some people than to convince them they've been fooled.

(6,215 posts)I think there eventually will be another shoe to drop. I'm guess the hacking in at least three of the states. Look at what states put Trump over the Electoral College top.
Hacking there did result in them accessing voting records. How many voter record were altered, purged, changed legal address, add a criminal record... whatever. That kept THAT voter from being able to vote on election day?
Maybe the Russians didn't change the final voting results but simply prevented voters from voting.
This information will trickle out little by little but not soon enough to stop it from happing in the 2018 midterms.
The GOP is in no rush to fix the security of the voting system because at this point it is working for them in their favor. IMO the fix was in in 2016 and will be in, in 2018 key congressional races.

(7,434 posts)So Russian hackers "picked the lock", opened the door, stared at the vote tallies, eyes wide open, and didn't change any votes??? Why would they NOT change votes? They found the keys to the kingdom, and they didn't use them???

(844 posts)Their favorite little caveat : there is no evidence that any vote tallies were changed..
But has anyone just asked them point blank if theyve even looked into that for real? Because obviously if you were taking that question seriously youd have done vote audits in at least some of 21 confirmed breaches. And of course with a President who still wont acknowledge the problem and a Republican Party still holding out hope that Russia will steal midterms for them or at least make things easier we cant trust we will even get an answer

(1,648 posts)Think about this:
How would the government go back and fix all the altered tallies and re-position so many elected offices in the United States?
Then go back and undo all of the influence those elected offices effected on everything passed and all business conducted with regards to everyone who may have been wronged... Foreign governments all the way to constituents. I also think that is why Obama refused to investigate the Bush Administration, because it opens a Pandora's Box.
They don't want to cause anymore disruption and fights, so they let it slide. Personally, I think Mueller is there to also determine exactly who in the Republican Party needs to go away and be shunned in the future.

(7,434 posts)Why would Russian hackers go through the trouble and risk of hacking into the US voting system, gain access to databases, gain access to the election process, and NOT change votes to favor Trumpy? That simply doesn't make sense. Oh, but the Russian hackers DIDN'T CROSS THAT LINE, did they? And why not? Do they have a sacred respect for the election process? Why would we conclude, without data to back this up, that not ONE vote was altered by hackers? Why would they tinker around the edges when they could just burrow right in and do whatever they wanted?

(8,292 posts)and considered the 2016 elections to be null and void. I mean, don't you remember the look on 45's face when he came on stage election night? He wasn't even smiling. It's like he knew that it wasn't for real. He was not prepared to win that election and we are all paying the price for that fraud.
I knew that if the russians had hacked both the Ds and Rs but only published the Ds emails, they had to have been able to hack into the election data. The report that 21 states were hacked is not a surprise to me.
That election was rigged, just like 45 said. He knew it and I don't ever call that buffoon, the mango Mussolini our president.

(9,291 posts)They probably told him that they would make it close, but not enough to make him change his life.
So, others probably told him that he can take the job, but others will be the decision maker. He won't even have to learn to read. Can keep all those businesses. Then he started believing he can do it, since his fans want it. More clapping, and others telling him how great he's doing.
He thinks he actually won, he will be the last to believe it was stolen. Russia screwed him, and us, I knew he was too corrupt to ever have the Justice system to research his companies. He might have been told, no one will ever figure it all out. It's way too complicated. Forgetting how RICO works.
His family should never have allowed him to run. He should really fear, if the criminal justice system has the evidence you're guilty. He thinks he can just ignore that?
McDonalds won't save him, then.

And yes, her statement was even more publicly officially-official, but the fact is no one was surprised because we went through all this last summer.
And some reports said it was even worse: 39 states, not 21.
http://time.com/4828306/russian-hacking-election-widespread-private-data/
The hacking of state and local election databases in 2016 was more extensive than previously reported, including at least one successful attempt to alter voter information, and the theft of thousands of voter records that contain private information like partial Social Security numbers, current and former officials tell TIME.
In one case, investigators found there had been a manipulation of voter data in a county database but the alterations were discovered and rectified, two sources familiar with the matter tell TIME. Investigators have not identified whether the hackers in that case were Russian agents.
The fact that private data was stolen from states is separately providing investigators a previously unreported line of inquiry in the probes into Russian attempts to influence the election. In Illinois, more than 90% of the nearly 90,000 records stolen by Russian state actors contained drivers license numbers, and a quarter contained the last four digits of voters Social Security numbers, according to Ken Menzel, the General Counsel of the State Board of Elections.
SNIP
Cyber-security officials testifying at the Senate hearing acknowledged for the first time the extent of the Russian effort to interfere with the election. Twenty-one states saw such intrusions last year, a senior official from the Department of Homeland Security, Jeanette Manfra, said. None of the intrusions affected the vote count itself, all the officials testified.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-06-13/russian-breach-of-39-states-threatens-future-u-s-elections
Russias cyberattack on the U.S. electoral system before Donald Trumps election was far more widespread than has been publicly revealed, including incursions into voter databases and software systems in almost twice as many states as previously reported.
In Illinois, investigators found evidence that cyber intruders tried to delete or alter voter data. The hackers accessed software designed to be used by poll workers on Election Day, and in at least one state accessed a campaign finance database. Details of the wave of attacks, in the summer and fall of 2016, were provided by three people with direct knowledge of the U.S. investigation into the matter. In all, the Russian hackers hit systems in a total of 39 states, one of them said.
