Did not expect the same excitement would ever return but it did with the launch of the Space X Falcon Heavy Lift rocket. The fact it was carrying Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster as the test payload just made it that much cool.

The Falcon Heavy, which is billed as the most powerful rocket to launch since NASAs Atlas V, hurtled into outer-space while loaded with a cherry red Tesla Roadster belonging to SpaceX owner Elon Musk.
The billionaire business magnate sent the electric car into orbit because normal tests are too boring.
He said: Test flights of new rockets usually contain mass simulators in the form of concrete or steel blocks. That seemed extremely boring.
Of course, anything boring is terrible, especially companies, so we decided to send something unusual, something that made us feel.
The payload will be an original Tesla Roadster, playing Space Oddity, on a billion year elliptic Mars orbit.

(118,832 posts)one Apollo Mission had the same first name as my brother. My dad mused that he lost his toothbrush in space. Thanks for the memories.
Too upset by the Challenger disaster to watch space anymore.

(4,483 posts)I felt exactly the same way, just like when I was a kid and we always watched every rocket launch with awe. I have been "meh" about Elon Musk, but now he's the coolest guy in--well, in the universe!!
