(13,081 posts)Obviously dont hit people or let people hit you is what Id tell my own children or students and have but I think thats yet ANOTHER thing the right wing misogynistic fuckheads miss.
If Rob Porter had hit his wife in 2006 (he clearly did; weve all seen the pictures), but had THEN gone to anger management therapy and couples therapy and admitted wrongdoing at the time, then this would all be a different story.
I will always believe, in my heart of hearts, that people can change. Redemption, forgiveness, et cetera. For instance: Gandhi beat his wife. Its in his autobiography. Clearly, he eventually moved towards the NON-violent end of the spectrum (although he always stayed somewhat sexist, but he also didnt get a full run to change completely).
No, people can change. Its just that hard-core conservatives rarely do, hence the word conservative. We all know the litany of lies and justifications they issue every single time.

(16,887 posts)Seriously....what is the rate of domestic violence in groups of males age 18-65?
Not that anybody like that should exist, but definitely not in the White House or public service....

(43,049 posts)It's more common in dating relationships than active marriages.
The majority of domestic abuse offenders arent the spouses of victims they are most likely to be current or former boyfriends or girlfriends.

Domestic violence has dropped, but take a closer look.
The rate of domestic violence for persons 12 and older dropped by 63 percent from 1994 to 2012, the Department of Justice said. But while that may sound promising, it trails the 67 percent fall in overall violence over the same time period.
