Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir's primary songwriter and founding member of the Electronic Frontier Foundation has passed. My heart hurts. I got to know Barlow through String Cheese Incident. A brilliant man. Once involved in Wyoming Republican affairs he became a Democrat and wrote one of the Dead's more political songs, Throwin' Stones, which Barlow admits to being directly about Dick Cheney.

(626 posts)Throwin Stones is one of my faves. Was fortunate to see the boys do it a few times in the 80's and 90s....

(15,320 posts)It was so many years ago, back in the 90s, that I don't remember where I saw it. I didn't know who he was at the time. He wrote about his wife who died unexpectedly a year after they married. An article about his death linked to an interview he gave shortly after his wife died, and I realized he was the man who wrote that heartbreaking piece all those years ago. I've always thought about the young woman who died suddenly on the plane and left behind such sorrow ever since.
