A hotel owner in Britain swaps Bibles for the racy novel "Fifty Shades of Grey." And the local priest isn't too happy.
The change was made earlier this month in all 40 guest rooms at the Damson Dene Hotel in the Lake District of England, USA Today reported.
"I haven&'t read the book yet -- I'm not in the target audience -- but I'm told it's a ripping good yarn and everyone who's in the target audience loves it," hotel owner Jonathan Denby wrote in a blog post. "This made me wonder about the sense of providing a book, the Gideon Bible, which no one reads and many dislike, in the bedside cabinet of our hotel bedrooms, instead of a book which everyone wants to read, such as 'Fifty Shades of Grey.'"
Denby denied making the change for any religious or philosophical reasons.

(69,014 posts)1. Please. You can put Bible app on your phone if you want it.
But that book costs money and the library waiting list is over 70 people long.

It is totally ridiculous, imo, to put bibles in hotel rooms. Those who are so attached to the bible usually 'never leave home without it' not to mention there is more than one version of the bible.
Edited to correct grammar, changed 'are' to 'is'.

(50,566 posts)6. I like to, um, "enhance" the Bibles I come across in hotel rooms.
You can leave little debunking messages in them -- it's quite enjoyable.

(50,484 posts)7. LOL, I never thought of that!
I will keep it in mind for future hotel stays.

It's less fictional than the Bible, that's for sure.
