Ed Shultz has been off TV and radio awhile now. He just called into his radio show,10:15pst. His voice filled with obvious emotion, he informed us that his wife Wendy, just completed an operation to remove ovarian cancer, that the doctors were optimistic. He plans on spending more time with his wife and he thanked everyone for their good wishes and prayers.

(10,558 posts)He is a big man and often quite bombastic sounding on his shows. That call was humble, drained. You could tell he was fighting back the tears.

(140 posts)... inset to his crown. I'm sure a integral piece to Ed's life-journey that has got him to where he is now. Treasure having stability in one's life such as that.
Get well soon, Wendy!

I hope she will beat it tho. If the docs are optimistic, that is good.

operation for Ovarian Cancer and the docs said they think they
got it all.
As you may know, Ed credits Wendy
with "converting" him to the Left.
Best to both of them.

(5,944 posts)I just went through an ovarian cancer scare. Had a high ca125 and a very very large ovarian cyst. It turned out to be a fast growing cystonoma (20 pounds when removed) and non-cancerous. Treatment has greatly improved over the years. Many now survive that wouldn't before. If they got it all and it hasn't spread, her prognosis should be good.

(136 posts)I happened to be listening to Mike on Ed's radio show when Big Ed called in. I could hear the poor guy's voice cracking as he relayed the news to Papantonio and the listeners, so he was obviously hurting. Ed commented that "...this kind of thing shakes you to your bones", and he's right. Wendy is really special; if I remember right, she would help out on the radio show before Ed made it to prime time on MSNBC.
Hang in there, Ed. Your fans have your back. Prayers and positive feelings to Wendy.

(39,909 posts)I was fortunate enough to have been listened to Ed in the early days of his transformation
when he was broadcasting out of North Dakota (Bismark?)
The Right Wing had done a good job of labeling "Democrats" as New England Latte Drinking wimps.
I thought that Ed's "Red Meat Eating, Gun Totin, Two Fisted, Capital "D" DEMOCRAT" (or words close to that) did MORE for the Democratic Party in that area than any other promotional campaign.
It gave a LOT of Mid-West "Cowboys" permission to vote DEMOCRATIC.
Thank You, Ed Schultz.

As I've told our family, I used to always have hope, but now it's hopeless.
