(5,101 posts)I'm a long time true lover of America and great admirer of your history.
It is really amazing what a young country has achieved in less than 2 centuries.
I'm disheartened to see how Trump has turned it in a world laughing stock !

To be honest, I don't feel compassionate. They have only themselves to blame.

And as much as I can, showing around me Trumpig as he is : a toxic garbage.

(5,101 posts)In French we say :
Tel est pris qui croyait prendre. I think the equivalent in English is "It's the bitter bit". I also found "Joke's on you".
I don't know which one fits better.

(34,461 posts)He (Nunes) shot himself in the foot.
He got a taste of his own medicine.
This was not one I found but may be similar:
He (Mueller) who laughs last laughs best.

(14,582 posts)Yes, he doesn't seem one for joking around, does he? His face reminds me of that old movie Men in Black, when Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are interviewing Edgar's wife. She asks whether they are making fun of her, and Tommy Lee deadpans, "No, ma'am, we don't have any sense of humor we're aware of."
I want to see Trump laughing it up in an orange suit at a Federal penitentiary.

(14,175 posts)Is it gives us a distorted view of Mueller and his investigation. Now, I'd love it if Fox News and RW hate radio was correct. That he was truly out to get Donald Trump as his #1 mandate. That he hated the man as much as we do. That he wasn't influenced in the least by any Republican party ties, because he was secretly a D in R clothing. Because then we'd know he's 100% on our side.
But the truth is, we don't know what he has, or if he may have something, but not quite enough to force R's on an impeachment. That is there is not quite enough evidence on Don himself personally, to recommend charges, even while he may take down a few of Don's close allies.
Or, if he does have a mountain of evidence to take down the President and half the R's in Senate and House, having both a Republican and military background, he could very well be influenced by Kelly and other fellow R's that it is not in the national interest to have a President plus half the R's fall so far so fast. That it would destabilize the economy into recession, and might even cause civil unrest the likes we have never seen since the civil war. So in the interests of stability, and loyalty to his party, he might tone down his charges to basically a slap on the wrist for the President.
I know he is our last and greatest hope. But we have no ideas of the pressures he may feel from fellow Republicans. Look what happened to Comey. I can totally see two-faced Graham or double-speak McCain working him. So on the surface they come off as moderate and law respecting Senators that publicly praise Mueller and defend him, but behind the scenes they convince him to not embarrass the party too much.
What I'm saying is, we should be prepared mentally for this outcome. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but the worst keeps on happening.

(5,101 posts)I understand what you mean.
I have faith.
The way he works, according to what he shows is impressive and interesting. Almost no leaks or controlled ones, his silence is deafening, in comparison the Sphinx is incredibly talkative...
Even when he speaks, you can't figure what he is thinking. I'm almost sure he doesn't care much about the pressure.
It is not for nothing that Trumpig is so agitated, trying at any cost to undermine his credibility.
The flawed Russia fan-fiction of Nunes speaks for itself. Panic is on board. It doesn't mean Mueller is at the brink but he is clearly annoying Trump et al...
It is a complex criminal case, it needs time and the most important to be built and secured at all stages of the process. A mistake or an omission can easily ruin an entire case...

(14,175 posts)I needed that. I want to believe that.
The Republican Party has a history of 'party before country'. Even sometimes respected 'good' men. Colin Powell is a great example and what he did at the UN to justify the invasion. Comey as well to some extent. Obama had his back right to the end. Yet time and time again, they stick together, and do anything to please the GOP leadership.
I just look at these memes and it reminds me of stuff put out on DU on Hillary vs Trump leading up to the election. The bragging memes of Hillary winning. My hopes have been dashed so often, from W Bush winning twice, to Trump winning.
But I'll try and be more optimistic.

(10,836 posts)A massive win in November, that Blue Tsunami we dream of made reality. Despite whatever Mueller does or doesn't do, we push for a win at all levels--local, county, state and Federal--and Trump will be neutered, not only in his damaging legislative desires but with the real threat of impeachment. And the Republicans? They can gaze at their heads on a platter, so richly deserved.
That's how we turn this around. Then a possible Mueller/Schneiderman prosecution is the cherry on top.
November is our big fu*cking weapon. We can do this!
