There was a time when the manly men of the NFL, manly men of sports anywhere, wouldn't be caught dead doing anything like this unless it were clearly a homophobic joke. And even then they'd probably not have been comfortable doing it. It's quite a testament to the fact that we CAN and DO as a culture become more enlightened as time goes on, little by little, that this is not only is this not construed as a homophobic joke, but most people seeing it are perfectly fine with the subject matter.

Same for hugging. There was a time not ALL that long ago when men wouldn't hug each other either other no matter what, which robbed fathers and sons of the love and affection they deserved -- and frankly needed. Now it's commonplace, thought nothing of among most men, and thank heaven for that.
