(8,381 posts)Here's what he said, after Fallon said, "You made Minneapolis turn purple and had the Prince symbol on it.":
"He's a...it's a moment for me, if I'm being quite honest, because he's always been the pinnacle of musicianship for me and when we decided that like the serendipity and synergy that we would be in Minneapolis and that, you know, he's such a special thing here, aside from what he is all over the world, I just felt like i wanted to do something for this city and something for him that would just be the ultimate homage to what I consider the g.o.a.t. of musicians. And also, like, I'm not going to lie to you guys, because Questlove is the encyclopedia on music but also like, the, I feel like a gatekeeper on Prince, so, like, if I got the thumbs up from Quest, I'm good....I just wanted to use that opportunity to do something special for this city, but most of all, for my favorite musician of all time."

(9,527 posts)They try to cram so much flash and glam in and get in a bunch of songs, that they really don't get anything in well.

(9,269 posts)And Im an old fart with music, and much of current pop leaves me cold. But hes one of the current artists I like a lot. And hes been around a long time, *NSYNC started in the mid 90s.

(61,695 posts)I like most of his music, but other stuff I don't get. But he's a great performer, period.
I also think he's really good as a comedian and actor.

(3,635 posts)the quintessential millennial pop star... blend of hip-hop/r&b/80's pop that is the signature sound of their generation.
the 'sexy back' routine should've been longer, one of his best songs...
i think the prince tribute was a nod to prince's hometown of minneapolis... nice touch.

(24,527 posts)This was a musical production....without actual musicians. Does Timberlake actually play a piano and, if so, why not close-ups of his piano skills?
Oh well, I am old...this wasn't meant for my demographic I guess. The age of real musicians is over. But showmanship knows with no real musical talent is the future.

(7,715 posts)Justin Timberlake gets a billion k&r's from me.
Does anyone remember the Black-Eyed Peas song "Where is the Love?" from 2003 during the Gulf War? Justin co-wrote that song and sang the last lyrics. It was the ONLY protest song that I was aware of that got major airplay in 2003 when everyone in the US was gushing about how great W was for destroying Iraq etc. Anyone who registered any protest about the US or W then was labeled a traitor and essentially destroyed.
It took great courage for him to do this as a major star, and after that, he can pretty much do no wrong in my view!

(2,338 posts)But the halftime show was not very well done. The sound mix was off (I couldnt understand most of the lyrics) and it was simply boring.

(16,672 posts)Music wise.. Prince would win. Otherwise.. Timberlake and who doesn't think dick in a box is funny as hell.
*puts flame retardant suit on for the incoming flaming.*
If for some reason I missed Prince reversing his anti-gay stuff I am open to be corrected.
