Can I insure a car that does not belong to me? I do have a car and a Geico policy and was wondering if I could add the car of a friend?
Thanks.

(34,661 posts)All about the Names or name on the Title. And who is the Authorized Driver or Drivers on the Policy. Again, check with your Agent.

(20,214 posts)Your liability i surance insures you as the driver of any car. Your comprehensive insurance insures your vehicle. Your friend's comprehensive insurance insures his vehicle being driven by any person who has his permission to drive it.
I had a boyfriend who totalled my car. He was driving it with my permission, therefore my insurance paid for it.

(4,834 posts)will be yours to cover along with your other car (cars). If he is liable for a higher rate because of driving record etc. that will show up when they quote your rate.
Let us know how it works out.

(8,310 posts)Insurance companies are realizing that people are living together without being married/related so you can combine policies and you end up saving a few bucks, which is what we were trying to do. It did take a couple of phone calls and we both had to speak to the agent and verify who we were, but after that it was done. Thank you all for chiming in.

(53,061 posts)In order to apply for insurance the person getting the coverage has to make certain statements of fact and attest that they are true, so at some point I am guessing that your friend had to 'apply for the coverage'.
Once approved there are numerous ways to pay for it.
