General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsNixon and Trump have one common trait. Both believe/believed that they can do anything,
and get away with it. For Trump it is his collusion with the Russians. For Nixon, collusion with North Vietnam. There is evidence that Nixon tried to cut a deal with North Vietnam before the 1968 election. He told North Vietnam that if it cut a deal with him as president, then he would do much better than Johnson who was at the time trying to negotiate with them. Undermining the President of the United States in that way is treason. Trump's collusion with Russia might also be called that.
What is important is the arrogance of both that they could do "anything", and get away with it. I believe that right now Trump believes he will get away with everything that he has done. No matter what Mueller or anyone says or does, he thinks he will get away with it. Same thinking as Nixon.

(38,445 posts)Perhaps after Mueller indicts his family, and Trump pardons them, then he will resign. Yes, he will get away with pardoning the family, but he will have to leave afterwards. Most people think Trump will get away with it. I hope he doesn't, but as you say.."..he might get away with it." We will see what happens.

I think Trump will be even worse, proclaiming himself a victim until the day he dies.

(972 posts)Nixon didn't have Fox, RW Radio, and RW social media figures marching in lock step to sew the seeds of doubt and create a alternative narrative. The effects of this shouldn't be underestimated.

Today, not so much.
Maybe one or two would give a critical tweet or two today....
But stand up to Trump?
Ain't gonna happen

When Mueller's findings are made public, and indictments are made, we will see. But I doubt there will by any who attack Trump and company even then. I wonder if any of them (republicans) will call for Trumps resignation when his crowd is indicted.
