assets to generate those huge gains and dividends, and buy into a lucrative partnership, at a relatively young age?

unfortunately, in both parties. Very few politicians at the national level leave office poorer than they come in. Most hit millionaire status.

Raise the question I described. I really would like to know if these were legitimately acquired assets.

Quite a few come into the Congress with substantial assets (eg, Kerry, Issa). That’s not puzzling. But how they acquired wealth during tenure is.

probably would need term limits to correct that. I might be willing to give up some long term pols to go that route.
