Her name was Ruby and she was just an angel. Mostly my family has Labs and Golden Retrievers but the same sister just got a Swiss Mountain Dog and she is absolutely adorable as well - kind of Rottie coloring with some white.

She was what started my rottie fascination. Through her I learned how smart they are. She had been trained to do all sorts of things, one being to "speak". I remember I was in their house, sitting on the sofa with the rottie. She had snuggled up to me, and I was petting her. I told her to "speak" and was disappointed when she wouldn't. The neighbor said, "Why would she want to 'speak' when you are already petting her?" That sneaky rottie had played cute so I would pet her, and she didn't feel the need to perform.

She had also learned to purr from the cat. Have you ever heard an 80 lb rottie purring?

I have never seen a rottie purring, but I have seen one who is very in love with her family. She was adorable! It was amazing how she could manipulate people into giving her food.
