Foxs Sean Hannity threatens to arrest James Comey after GOP memo flops
By Oliver Willis |
FEBRUARY 2, 2018
Sean Hannity had a bad day after the GOP's supposedly bombshell memo he had spent so much typing hyping turned out to be an embarrassing dud. Sean Hannity, arguably the most pro-Trump host on Fox News, vented his frustration about the Republican Partys embarrassing memo release by fuming at former FBI Director James Comey.
After the memo authored by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) was released, the entire world was quickly able to see that the partisan smear document was far less potent than Republicans, and Hannity, said it was. Rather than vindicating the right wings attacks on the FBI, the memo showed that the ongoing investigation of Trump and Russia is on firm ground.
From his perch at Fox News, Hannity has poured a lot of his value into the memo and was obviously upset that Republicans and the propagandists at Fox were instant laughingstocks.
Comey also took a turn pointing out the absurdity of all the hype prior to the memos release.
Thats it? he tweeted.
This seemed to enrage Hannity, who quickly reacted to defend his friends on Capitol Hill and the president he has backed to the hilt.

(60,010 posts)Trump spends evening on the phone to various people, some of whom will give his ego a handjob.
Hannity is one of those people.
Trump is pretty savvy about the power of tv.

(31,261 posts)Comey is what, 6-7? If Hannity approach Comey to "arrest" Comey, that can be considered assault, what happens after is up to Comey.

(58,724 posts)And Trump is actually quite powerful.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)He's not a cop of any kind. He also can't order anyone's arrest. He's powerless in that regard.

(146,317 posts)ask for charges. Those are determined by a Grand Jury in most cases. And who makes the arrest? Normally, it would be the FBI. Trump is not all that popular with the FBI right now.
The power of the President is not strong when it comes to individual citizens. He really can't do anything to anyone.

You and me are hopeless liberals, I see. We cant help ourselves wanting to do the right thing, always, even when it isnt convenient or profitable.

It was a nice experiment in democracy while it lasted.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)I can't think of an instance of that. Why? Because he doesn't have any authority to do such a thing, and those who do don't take such instructions from the President.

(22,037 posts)Doesn't he have the power to declassify anything?
Isn't that part of the psycho-drama we watched this week with the Nunes Toilet Paper?

(60,010 posts)Not talking about most inner workings of the gov. is one of the things.
but Trump did it anyway, when the 2 russian guys visited him in the White House last year, and what he told them exposed important spy info. about Israel, and a Gov. guy ended up dead.
Most Presidents have been smart enuff to know what they can't talk about, in a few cases, some were not told certain things that might pose a problem, like Reagan, when his mental problems started to show.
Trump just blathers away, to anyone who will listen.
classified info. is supposed to g thru a process involving quite a few Gov. people and agencies before it is de-classified.
No matter what Nunes said, he can't just decide to make something unclassified all by his own lil self.
That is part of the uproar about the memo.

(48,955 posts)there are more and more references in the media about Trump taking his 'cues' from Hannity. Everytime someone else is given credit as being 'the real president' (Bannon, Kelly) Trump gets very grouchy and abusive to that person. Hannity's time, I am guessing, is coming soon.

(48,955 posts)and morphing that story into a meme that Hannity (due to his influence) is like "President Hannity". Get 1 or 2 stories in MSM that carry that story (and those will get infront of our ego driven president - and let it run its course. Abusive war of dominance from Trump via tweets, and worked into press statements, will commense. Trump is so predictable on his ego front, it is like a formula.
Just wish I knew how to seed more of these stories into MSM (come on - morning joe and Cnn's Lemon which we know Trump watches as much as fox news.... run with these themes.)
