Was a post in my community group racist?

I'm over 60, white, grew up in BubbaLand, moved away to the big city, and recently moved back to BubbaLand in the deep south. The KKK is alive and well not too far from here.

In our community group on the internet, someone posts a post about the local Groundhog Day festivities. They post "Widespread protesting over Groundhog Day!!!!" The photo shows a group of all-black protesters or some sort of rucus on a city street. The only response at that time was a white male who responded, "They're probably protesting having to work to get free stuff!"

I thought about it, then I posted a response, unemotional and matter of fact, stating that if it was untentional that the pic is of all blacks, the pic should probably be replaced with one showing protest by Americans, who are of all races and ethnicities, since Af Americans are part of our community and might insult our neighbors.

Now I'm getting responses to my post of "Oh, good Lord," and "You can't be serious!" and such. Implying that I'm reading something into it that is not there.

I think I know the unspoken racist comment and pic, when I see it, since I'm white. It's happened a few times that I've been sent something racist, the sender assuming that since I'm white, I would find it funny. Pics of all blacks is not that uncommon; that way, they don't have to SAY it outright. You can SEE the meaning. I got a couple of pics like that when Obama was elected.

But what would YOU think? You think I got it wrong? Just curious.

1. Of course it was racist...and your community group should have standards and toss off folks who do

as can be typical for me, I started wondering. But yeah....I'm sure. I've rec'd these things before. White people (esp in BubbaLand) never UNintentionally select a pic of all-blacks. It's intentional.

12. You have to look for a picture of all Black protesters...and have a reason to want one.

2. There is no question it was racist. Stand your ground. Call them out. Don't let them get

away with the "it's a joke" and "you're a snowflake" bullshit.

It's racist and they know it's racist, they like that it is, and they thought they were in a place where everyone else would laugh and wink.

This kind of thing is our problem (us being white people with brains) so we have to be the ones to make it unacceptable.

To not see racism where it clearly exists

I remember once being sent a meme about how much more self reliant those northerners are in a snowstorm than the victims of Katrina were. The whole thing was just dripping with white superiority.

I called the sender on it and they were shocked. Not so much defensive as simply flabbergasted that I would see it that way. To him it was just libertarian self reliance bootstrap porn.

I have long thought that all the complaints about "those Katrina people" was racist in origin. Had they been white...different story. But I was never sure.

The “I’m a racist but I’m too much of a coward to actually say it outright so I’ll do these cowardly passive-aggressive posts that show it then I’ll deny it when anyone says it’s racist” kind of post.

8. My response would've been: "Yes that was a racist comment and stop calling me Lord! ....

... Cause you really don't want me as your Lord. I don't think highly of racists and bigots, but I think even less of the people that enable them. They go straight to hell bud, so stop calling me Lord! Did I mention my feelings about traitors that collude (which is a farce, call it what it is, conspire), with russians and the minions that supported them? No? Well, fear not they do go to hell and die!"

But that's just me and I usually get kicked out and banned from those type of groups.

However, that comment was racist and you were right to say so. If anyone comments otherwise, remember it's them not you with the problem on this issue.
