(17,984 posts)And they've been paying for it ever since. It kind of reminds me of a certain SOS who once presumed to run for president and defy both Putin and his puppet. There will never be an end to the harassment she receives because of that perceived slight.

(14,961 posts)All the years I've watched him, I've never seen this happen. Proof that we are living in dark times indeed.

(51,611 posts)I have to watch it quickly before HBO deletes it. Actually, I found out that if I post it in a reply post it stays in
there to watch without being deleted for some reason.

(6,133 posts)Maher wanted it to be lighter, but Frum thought it was an opportunity lost. I have more respect for Frum now because he knows this shit is serious.
I get how Maher needed it to be entertaining, but I dont find these Trump guys worth joking around with.

(16,104 posts)I can see if Bill Maher let it go on, not one crooked, corrupt, slimy, sleaze ball of a Republican would ever come on the show again.
Frum made some seriously scary points, though.
Especially about how we Democrats are anticipating that everything will work out.
That it can't happen here.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)seems to have been missed as Brazile kept trying to talk over. He believes that this shocking "memo" attack, warfare in the center of our government, is merely the prelude to something much worse.
Frum doesn't have a crystal ball, but being a conservative allows him to understand and predict their behavior better than most who are not. He understood long before that wealthy right-wing forces are engaged in an enormous battle for control of our nation, while others are still focused on and oh-mying in surprise at the on-stage behaviors of elected Republicans and still always underestimating their ruthless determination to win at any cost.

(6,133 posts)This shit takes a long time, and Im real concerned that the time is finally right for an ass like Trump to pull off president forever. I ask why wouldnt it happen? Whos going to stop it?
RandomAccess
(5,210 posts)Trump has been violating the Constitution (emoluments) and law (Trump hotel in D.C. and probably a bunch of other things) since the get-go, along with his determination for flaunting every possible convention, norm, tradition that we've relied on for so long.
And this past Monday he doubled down on his lawlessness, refusing to implement the law passed by an overwhelming bipartisan majority on Russian sanctions. Only a few Democrats said a thing. Yes, there were other things going on -- like this damned memo -- but still, that's a clear IMPEACHABLE offense.
Who's going to stop him? Clearly, not the Republicans. And he has just learned that the path is clear, full speed ahead.

He is not one of us.

(6,133 posts)I don't care what David Frum says and I never will. There's no Trump without GWB first. This didn't just come out of nowhere. Frum was part of that and so he helped bring us Trump. I guess people can pretend he's okay now that he's a 'never Trumper' if they want to, but as far as I'm concerned he can fuck right off and stay there.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)conservative who is fighting the corruption and extremism that have taken over the Republican Party. A force for rebuilding the stabilizing electoral center critical to democracy that has been breached.
Is that so bad? Or so bad that it justifies embracing division, in effect working for those who spent 40 years dividing the electorate with specific intent to conquer?
United we stand, divided we're on our knees beating off blows from each other while our nation is being looted and our power stolen.

(67,782 posts)He's kind of like Ana Navarro - a republican and/or moderate conservative who is willing to toss his political alignment (i.e., "party" for the good of the country.

(5,210 posts)or you can get strategically smart and make alliances with whoever you can to save our democracy. Your choice.
Were the situation not so dire -- and it IS dire -- I'd feel much the same way. But we need all the help we can get AND we're NOT going to save democracy without help from as many conservatives and Republicans as we can get our hands on.

(7,358 posts)Bill lost control, which was unfortunate because he had some really heavy hitters on. I would have like to have heard each of their point of view. If it wasn't for little 'Moochie' blabbing everyone out. He's like a little mob boss.

(27,815 posts)NOT a David Frum fan by any stretch - but he landed a few one-two punches on The Mooch that were very clever and well-timed.
The Mooch cracks me up. He is to today's political shows what Monty Rock III and Brother Theodore were to late night shows, like Merv Griffin and Steve Allen, back in the '60s - always good for some wacky fun.
I never see The Mooch without (a) thinking he's an extra from Goodfellas II who wandered into a political show by accident, and (b) wondering where in Jersey he just helped someone dump a body.

(27,815 posts)But for those of us who remember, doesn't The Mooch strike you as the 2018 version of Monty?
Maybe Scaramucci will also reinvent himself to stay guest-worthy - like turning himself into Disco Tex (and the Sexolettes) - GET DANCIN'!!!
