FBI Issues Fierce Response After Release Of Nunes Memo, Says Agency Will Not Let 'Partisan Politics'
For the past several weeks the Republicans have been going on and on about the infamous memo that some lawmakers feel shows that the FBI is biased in its investigation of President Trump and his campaign's ties to the Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. On Friday, the memo was finally released and many were surprised to learn that memo was not the smoking gun many hoped it would be.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) composed the memo, which alleges the abuse of power of senior Justice Department officials by improperly using information from the so-called Steele dossier to obtain surveillance warrants on a member of the Trump transition team. Many Republican lawmakers argue this memo proves FBI bias, however, some disagree.
After the memo's release on Friday, the FBI Agents Association responded by asserting that Bureau's rank-and-file would not allow partisan politics to distract us after the release of a previously classified GOP memo alleging abuse of government surveillance powers by the Justice Department.
FBI Agents Association President Thomas OConnor argued: The men and women of the FBI put their lives on the line every day in the fight against terrorists and criminals because of their dedication to our country and the Constitution. The American people should know that they continue to be well-served by the worlds preeminent law enforcement agency. FBI Special Agents have not, and will not, allow partisan politics to distract us from our solemn commitment to our mission," he added.
