It appears this misleading inaccurate stupid memo is galvanizing support of the FBI from both sides of the aisle.
Fools are often their own worst enemy.

(637 posts)is a piece of garbage filled with omissions and outright lies. BUT ... trump will use it as a basis for firing Rosenstein and place him with a toady to quash Mueller. I've been preoccupied all day feeling hopeless and wishing there was something I could do.

(10,021 posts)Trump is obviously not a stable genius, so someone convinced him it was a good idea to (rewrite and?) release it.
And who all helped write the embarrassingly bad memo? It was not just Nunes. He was given orders to present it.
It would have had so much more impact if it was never released and they could refer and transform it to any damn thing they needed it to be. Now in a few hours, Poof, it is gone.

(32,639 posts)If Steve Bannon were still advising Cheeto, I believe he would have talked him out of releasing the memo. It's not that I admire Bannon, far from it! But we've seen other instances were Bannon got him to listen up and walk away from doing crazy shit. It seems he can actually think things through and see the big picture.
So we know that Bannon's gone and Cheeto is getting more insane by the minute. 'Course Hannity's already there.
radius777
(3,635 posts)much better than most of these people, he isn't just a partisan hack like Hannity and the rest.. which is why I was ecstatic at the Trump/Bannon breakup .. he basically lost his 'Karl Rove'. Trump is fairly stupid on his own especially with the typical Fox hacks now guiding him.

And like flapping his mouth to Michael Wolff and to Joshua Greene, the author of Devil's Bargain, a book that infuriated Trump because in it Bannon takes the credit for Trump's success.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)and people like that very often fail and self destruct because there's a lot wrong with them.
As for his understanding of politics, a lot of people disagree with that. Remember, this guy was inserted into the Trump campaign in August 2016 by ROBERT MERCER money. Several months later he had top level enemies instead of friends and because Trump didn't like him any more and blamed him for his troubles he'd lost most of his influence. In August 2017 after some months of this, he was officially out also; and last month the billionaire Mercers cut their ties with him and tossed him out of Breitbart as well.
A lot of badly flawed people rise to high levels because they have a real talent for self aggrandizement but can't remain because they lack the qualities needed for that. Some manage to hold on a lot longer than Bannon, though. Newt was speaker of the house for a whole 4 years before that collect of bad character traits finally finished permanently destroying his career in electoral politics.
radius777
(3,635 posts)personal issues, but he's not the typical Fox news hack, but (was) the de facto intellectual leader of the alt-right.
Al Sharpton (on Nicole Wallace's show) said this the other day, (parapharse) "while Trump is merely an opportunist, Bannon is a true believer."
Bannon is the one who identifiied and cultivated the alt-right ideology (via Breitbart) that Trump picked up on ... Bannon clearly has a sense of what the white working class GOP base was thinking.. that it wasn't the Tea Party and it wasn't old-school Reaganism - but white populism/nationalism, a sentiment you even see reflected in some (alt-left) of the Bernie movement.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)but I'd drop the suggestion of Bannon's abilities several degrees. He has ability all right, but if the Mercers hadn't PURCHASED him into Trump's circle, he'd still be working for them over at Breitbart (if they hadn't fired him for something else).
Lol at what white supremacists seeing him as an intellectual says about them. He does posture as one, throwing out the names of authors of thick books, who themselves have been trying and failing to create intellectual basis for what really only arises from gut-level fears and hates.
As for populism, the dangers and opportunities presented by populist resentments around the planet are being studied by thousands of experts and manipulated wherever governments to be overthrown are found. Bannon's no populist of course and merely one of its opportunists.
We'll be hearing more of him, of course. But at what level? Twenty years later Newt sells fake cancer cures and uses GOP primaries as sleazy billboards for his brand name.
Bannon's of course potentially very dangerous. As you say, he's a true believer -- in destroying liberal western democracy. But (last heard!) he's currently without money and power, and that Alabama debacle a severe setback to his brand. Is billionaire Peter Thiel's extremism of destructive enough type to make him willing to fund Bannon's next move? Or who else Left-wing populists seem to be in need of a new candidate, if only Bannon himself were more charismatic...

(14,531 posts)I have been tweeting trump that Kelly is out to get him. Feeding into his paranoia. Finding out today that Kelly was indeed heavily involved in pushing the memo to be published I might be right. Kelly wants his job.
Kelly is smart enough to know that memo makes trump looks stupid to hire a known Russian asset to his Nat Sec board.
It is fun to tweet conspiracy theories to trump. He is so paranoid that he eats at McD's so his food can't be poisoned. I suggest everyone pick a name in his cabinet or family and send him tweets on how they are out to get him. No facts needed, just fit the theory into the narrative.
Something Like this...
Hey Don, have you ever thought JR wants you in prison? He then gets it all for himself. He declares you incompitent and walks off with the whole shebang...Maybe even your wife. He seems to be "accidentally" letting illegal info slip.
Hey Don, Your son keeps tweeting about how you broke the law. Once you're gone Ivanka is next. Who do you think told the FBI all the damaging info on Jared? Not Ivanka!
Hey Don, what is Donny doing? telling the world you get all your money from Russian's. He wants you in prison.
Hey Don, Jr running around NYC telling everyone he slept with Melania.
What rational person would put anything incriminating on an office memo?

(33,346 posts)I watched the network news tonight and it barely got past telling what was in the memo. None of them gave equal time to rebutting it. ABC was best, but still mostly Democrats "said". NBC was worst and seemed to just push the political battle over the memo.
